Gun Selling Advice

Posted on 09/23/2019 3:53:46 PM PDT by Mean Daddy

I have a handgun I'd like to sell to get a different model. Since so many websites are anti-gun (e.g.: Craigslist) what other options are there?

I'm not a dealer, so Gun Broker isn't the best option with fees, FFL to FFL transfers plus I have approximately 1,000 rounds I'd like to sell as well.

Thought about flea markets but not sure I can just walk into one and sell or trade. My goal is to stay in state to avoid the FFL to FFL transfers but want to do it legally.

What are my options or what am I missing?

Thank you.

Armslist.com. It is easily, follow state laws, get ID. When I sell, mostly to CCW, which adds credibility. Price high as they avoid sales tax and background checks.

Go to a gun show. The one our family goes to has people selling privately all the time, they walk around with a sign on the gun with the price. Transfers done at the facility.

Go to your local gun shop. Most will do a trade, swap, sell and trade, etc.

Check with state law. Doing a hand-to-hand sale between private parties may or may not be legal.

1) Your options will vary greatly depending on what state you are in.

2) Assuming you don't live in a Nazi state such as NY, Kalifornia, New Jersey, etc., under federal law you are limited to a face-to-face sale to another resident OF THE SAME STATE THAT YOU RESIDE IN.

3) You CANNOT SHIP THE HANDGUN TO THE SELLER. You must perform the transaction face to face with the buyer.

4) Again assuming you live in a free(er) state, you can sell your handgun face to face to someone at a gun show.

5) After all of that hassle, you might just be better off selling it to your local gun store, or using it as a trade-in against the new gun you want.

Private sale is better. Shops need to make a profit and will offer significantly less than the items blue book value- often around 60-70 of the value.

Gun shop as a trade. Gun shows or clubs have flea markets.
Get a transfer / bill of sale from the buyer and you give him the goods. If it falls into the wrong hands you can show you parted with it. Most gun clubs will give advice into the particulars of the laws in your state.

. Call me paranoid but my spidey sense alarm just went off.

All right, you're paranoid. What exactly is the problem with asking how to legally sell a private firearm?...........Sheesh!

I personally would just keep it and try to raise money some other way.

I’m James Comey and I’ve gone rogue!!! I’ve purposely kept it generic so not to advertise on the board. I’ve been a long time member who lives in Iowa.

I’ve debated that approach as well. I want to get my CCW license and want a hammerless revolver that I can put in my pocket.
