Meet at a Walmart parking lot with an armed friend staying in the car.

This bit of advice takes the Grand Prize for the dumbest, crappiest advice given on this blog. So, the friend will be the one arrested, face criminal charges and legal expenses for being dumb enough to be your armed guard at this sales transaction.

My advice is to trade it in.

There a number of ways of carrying an XD-40 that are nearly undectable. The gun does not need to be hammerless. Most guns have visible hammers.

In Iowa, Wikipedia says that the buyer must have a permit to acquire a particular handgun, But a reson with a permit to carry can buy without a PTA. A background check is required for private sales.

Obviously, a transfer of a handgun across state lines requires a dealer to be involved.

Depends on your state laws. Here in PA a handgun has to go through a FFL. Long guns don't.

Armslist is your best bet.

So don’t take a gun to a gun transaction? That’s even dumber. I always carry now I can carry open, and usually have someone in their own car too. You’re kind of screwed if they show up with someone and you didn’t. If they want to leave when they see two people fine.

Private sales are still a protected right in most states.

There are a few states that have infringed on the Second Amendment and do not allow private sales.

3) You CANNOT SHIP THE HANDGUN TO THE SELLER.

I'm sure you meant "buyer",,,,

You are allowed to transfer a firearm directly to a licensee in another state. No need to use a FFL on your end. Plenty of firearms forums to list it for free. Some require a minimum post count to sell on their forum.

Could be a sleeper account trying to trick an unsuspecting FReeper into doing something legally.

Now that was funny....intended..or not.

Yes hammer less .380. I have no trouble using A Walther PP with a hammer. It doesn’t protrude much.

You can buy a hammerless Ruger .380 for $179.

want a hammerless revolver that I can put in my pocket.

Most guns need a pocket holster because they are top heavy. They may end up upside down in your pocket. I went through this with my own pocket carry.

Hence, the question, yes? Does his state allow such?

You need to sell it to an FFL or shop. In this day and age it is no longer prudent to transfer your gun to a private citizen and then get a knock on your door from the ATF after that gun has been used in a crime. Whether you did any checking on the guy you sold it to (say, he has a concealed handgun license or your state equivalent, assuming it is his) or not, it could get stolen or you could get duped. With an FFL, you are taken out of the equation as they’d start at the transfer after the most recent FFL.

I’d sale or give to a family member but that’s about it. Even then, I’d do a lot of paperwork, make copies, and if/when the AFT showed up, say nothing and turn over the paperwork to them. By paperwork, we’re talking affidavits — things that could be used in court without further prep, not just copies of drivers licenses.
