The Princess Bride is a classic film, a national treasure that should be handed down through the ages, but according to Variety Sony is talking about a Princess Bride remake. My head nearly exploded when I heard this. Here is my rant.

Very overrated movie but Hollywood doesn't care if this movie means a lot to many, many folks.

“I don’t remember the original title of the longer film from which “Everything Is a Remake” was extracted.

I remember that by the time you finished you were a little depressed, totally convinced that EVERY film you have ever liked was actaully a remake, or some type of ripoff of something else.

:(”

Didn’t Shakespeare say “there is nothing new under the sun” when referring to stories? From the original Hebrew “ain chadash tachat ha shemesh...”

"Michael Moore"

He'd eat the rest of the cast. That might not be a bad thing.

The culture depicted will definitely veer left.

Racist liberals see a mostly white cast as bad just because of their demographics - thus just swapping out the race of some characters makes it “better” and justifies the remake.

In all fairness, few got it early on.

Woz certainly understood but met strong resistance. I think William Mench got it too which was why he was willing to take a chance to make a 16-bit version of the 6502 nearly on his own.

Others caught on of course. Sooner or later.

I think the PC domain stumbled into it because thanks to IBM not being IBM for one fantastic moment in time the clones happened and when combined the only having to build computers and not also create the OS they found themselves in a position where compatibility was king, where being too different could cost you ... and that let begin incremental improvement while fighting amongst themselves over price performance for a base type. They reproduced more easily.

If played by Key or Peele it could actually work.

On one hand, so much of what is so good about the Princess Bride comes from its unique cast, including Mandy Patinkin, André the Giant, Carol Kane (who is still playing the same character on Kimmy Schmitt, just without needing the make-up anymore), and the little bald guy.

OTOH, as good as it was, there was a lot that could have been better. Buttercup was a zero. The villain was more just slightly off-putting than scary. Being truly in love was about as spiritual or even as romantic as being born with a birthmark. And criticizing the the low-budget 80s effects, like the giant rubber rat is about as pointless as complaining that your kindergartener’s production of Jack and Beanstalk lacked a convincing giant. Some of these failures gave the movie a self-awareness which fit the mode of story-telling, but it would be fun to see them done well at least.

I have been forced to the conclusion that Hollyweird does remakes not just because they lack creativity and want to minimize risk, but because they actually want to destroy the old movies they are remaking.
I wonder what sort of ‘woke’ BS they will try to inflict this new Princess Bride?
