If her story about the intoxicated teacher is true, there needs to be serious investigation.

Hah! Don't you know that anything goes in Gubmint union schools these days? Especially in California.

They aren’t there to get a paycheck. They are biding their time until they can draw a pension without even working.

Teachers like that should be hanged in the public square.

The children of today will be running our nation some day. What these types of teachers do is not only child abuse - but treason.

I bet after the first hanging the other teachers will step in line or quit their jobs.

Same back in ‘77. No expectations, and therefore, no disappointments.

A piss poor guidance counselor can certainly mean students lose out on valuable opportunities.

I went to a prep school, and the guidance counselor was worthless. He suggested Antioch to me, and came up with no scholarship opportunities, even though he should have known that my family was not well off.

Because I was a bit of a rabble rouser, he assumed I would fir in at a lefty place like Antioch. Even though I had been a loud hard right activist for my seven years there. He was also a bit shocked at my PSAT/SAT scores, as my grades were erratic. The school only had 320 students with a graduating class of 60, so it wouldn't have been too much for him to keep up.

Why did she wait until graduation to report the teacher who was intoxicated?

Because she was smart enough to know better.

Speaking of the drunk teacher “Being escorted by police out of school was a lasting impression."

Oh, I would say they knew before hand that there might have been a small problem.

Here’s the YouTube video:

She’s young and may grow up to regret that speech.

IMHO, an employer may think she sounds like a complainer who expects others to do things for her.

(i.e. Why couldn’t she look up scholarships for herself?)

My guidance counselor was a joke and did zero for me.

There are probably a million scholarships out there. You can find some on your own but you will miss others that are just not on your radar.

That is why the Counselor is suppose to help you find the ones that is for Finnish descent students who worked on the school news paper and are going to major in English at a state school.

My husband missed out on a full scholarship because his school chose to send in his tenth grade records rather then his senior records. The collage sent him a nice letter telling him that they would be happy to give him a scholarship when he graduated. By the time they figured out what happened all the scholarships had been awarded.

He enlisted instead but that is not an option for everyone.

Mine very specifically told me getting into USNA was a pipe dream and I shouldn’t waste my time. I still have the school catalog I took out of her office so I could figure out how to apply on my own.

My cross country coach told me it was a waste of time to take off practice to go get my DODMERB physical redone. All the running had put my Albumin (proteins) over the limit so I took off a week and redid the blood work.

My family had no ties to anyone of any import. Dad hung sheetrock/painted/general construction.

My NJROTC Chief was the one who helped me make it happen as he reached out to the congressmen, drove me for my physicals, etc.

When I got in my maternal uncle and aunt told my mom I wouldn’t make it.

Sigh...good memories....

I hope she rots in hell.

I had a fifth grade teacher who was a nasty piece of work, but she was a saint compared to yours.

I suspect that this thread's valedictorian was being honest and objective. Good for her. I gave a speech to my fellow high school students that got me in a bit of trouble with the school administration, but I don't regret it.

Cheers!

A school’s staff are generally inept losers.

Shhh, you are not supposed to publically mention that.
Online school would provide similar or better quality.

I hope this call out is a trend.

Normally true, but if the education system in the PRC is anything like it is in Washingstoned, going through official channels to try and get incompetent educators fired or even disciplined is like nailing jello to the wall.

You’d think you could go to a cop in Seattle and get the illegally parked junker homeless RV drug den ticketed so they can tow it. No can do, they have discretion and homeless people park for free, tickets for you and me.

That’s the way it is and no one in local government will help you.

I imagine her school is about like that when it comes to drunk and incompetent teachers.

Yes, I had one in the third grade. Besides some of the things you mentioned this evil man would torture the kids by having one in front of class and demand they confess - without telling them why. After some tears he would finally tell them what bizarre crime he felt they had committed.

I understand & appreciate the arguments here in the girl’s favor (i.e., a well-deserved takedown of lousy, lazy public-employee/ teachers-union members, etc). But this still seems ill-mannered, insolent & immature. It kinda reminds me of thosw global-warming brats who ambushed Feinstein in her office a few months ago. I hate DiFi but I was rooting for her in that clip. A lot of bratty kids out there who have never been corrected & think the world revolves around their opinions

Calling out the staff of the school = entitlement?

These people at the school work for the taxpayers - i.e. her parents.

When else is she supposed to call these people out?

I doubt they would have let her say this in the school paper.
