Gingrich: China’s economy ‘can’t take the battering’ POTUS Trump is set to deliver
The National Sentinel ^ | 5/14/19 | Jon Dougherty

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is confident that the tariffs imposed by POTUS Donald Trump on China, including the latest round of 25 percent levies on $200 billion worth of goods, is much more than Beijing will eventually be able to weather.

During an appearance on “Sunday Morning Futures” with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo, Gingrich responded to a Twitter post by the president hinting that the Chinese government is “waiting” him out hoping that 2020 Democratic presidential contender Joe Biden wins the presidency next year and things can go back to ‘normal.’

“I think the Chinese are caught in a real box,” Gingrich said. “Because frankly, even if you think Trump’s not going to get reelected — and I personally think he’s gonna get reelected — but even if you thought he wasn’t, you’re talking about January 2021.”

Isn’t this how World War II in the Pacific started?

China was like a Trojan Horse....

At long last, President Trump checked it out and is whittling away at its legs.

Either they deal....or fall.

The notion that we are out to “batter” China is a false, and dangerous one. The idea that Trump, Fed.gov, or anyone can change China is a fantasy. Same as the ridiculous idea we are somehow going to “democratize” Islamic countries like Iraq or Afghanistan.

Rather, the USA has finally woken up the fact that China is a state-controlled and planned economy that will not open up any further - this is the important thing. Trade and investment will not be on equal terms, so now its time for the USA to begin protecting itself.

These two different ideas are often conflated.

Not even close.

Japan had decided and started to build up for war against the US long before the embargoes that came from the Rape of Nanking.

The embargoes are just an excuse the Blame America Firsters constantly pump out.

China is spending it’s surplus trade money building a larger more modern military. Japan built up prior to WW2 partially by trading with the USA. So yeah, kinda the same but why make it easy on them?

Yes, but no one is going to sneak up on Hawaii today!

The War in the Pacific started in 1931 when Japan invaded Manchuria.

I love how on the one hand Trump is constantly Praising President XI and the Chinese then with the other hand he’s slapping them silly.

I think that while you correctly describe how China operates, we are indeed going to either achieve a trading relationship with them that works for us and protects our IP, or China is going to be “battering itself” by refusing to make the concessions that we require as a condition of trading with them and thus have their goods highly tariffed. It’s interesting to see how China, NK and Iran are in the process of coming to understand that Trump isn’t like the raft of dickless, spineless, Globalist (ie. worthless) Presidents we’ve had since RR. I am looking forward to Trump “mounting” Xi’s “mirkin” on the wall of the Oval Office.

Gingrich is right. The Chinese are beinning to yelp loudly. Their economy is absolutely dependent on exports to America. The tariffs are hurting them badly. Yet if they adhere to real free trade and stop overtly stealing intellectual property, their economy will also suffer badly.

The Chinese would like nothing more than to humiliate america especially if it can be done through a proxy such as Iran or North Korea. Look to China to give Iran many more stealthy shore to ship missiles to fortify the Gulf and encourage Kim not to cooperate with Trump in any constructive manner.

“The War in the Pacific started in 1931 when Japan invaded Manchuria.”

True, but we didn’t get involved until Pearl Harbor. And the pretext for that invasion was a trading problem with Japan as I recall. Most of Asia still hates the Japanese for their barbarism.

China likes to play little games like they like you and respect you, Trump is just playing the same game except better.

“we didn’t get involved until Pearl Harbor. And the pretext for that invasion was a trading problem with Japan as I recall.”

The Japanese faced sanctions from America, because of their invasion, and massive war crimes in Manchuria. They were dependent on oil imports from the USA, and decided to seize other territories with oil (Dutch West Indies), before sanctions were imposed.

There is no replacement that China can militarily seize, to sell their cargo ships full of trinkets for hundreds of billions in hard currency.

They might lash out, out of anger/to save face (likely through surrogates), but there is no military option to prevent the the economic impact (and potentially high additional costs to trying). So it is different in that respect.

The US isn’t the only nation China has unfair trade with. We’re just the biggest by far. Other nations are silently cheering Trump on.

I heard Rush say today that we had twice the GDP of China with only one third the population.
