Vanity Post- need help
self | 5/14/2019 | MissEdie

My daughter is getting bullied at her school- we have spoken to the teachers, principals, and parents about it. My husband was in the Principal's office just this morning again talking about it. When I picked her up from school, she tells me she got hit and punched by a classmate while the teachers were not supervising the students. My husband and I have taught her to fight back but she's so kind hearted she doesn't want to hurt anybody. I need help finding a good lawyer in SC who can take my case because I know going this route is the only way the problem will get solved.

Sounds like it’s time to home school. No excuse for an innocent child to be subjected to violence.

Call the police AND a lawyer

they DO NOT want lawyers involved.

It’s not advice but it might be cathartic...

Step One - take her out of school. This will give you time to think about what to do, but it will also address the first issue: She is not safe and the Admins don’t give a poo. Do you think it will stop or continue without intervention? The whole world is out there - you are NOT stuck in that one city block of a school.

Step Two - you can homeschool. You can just keep her at home and have her read books. I had a kid who was out of school for 6 months (4th grade) bc his grandpa was sick. Tell them you are homeschooling and contact HSLDA on your RIGHTS as a citizen of a Free Country.

Step Three - then you can evaluate your options. And she’ll be safe. People think, ‘She can tough it out.” yes, but would you? to what avail? Isn’t it safer in your home? Pish - do it.

Drop me a note if you want. I am a teacher/ i homeschooled. It’s easy.

Have you contacted the school board? If you call them and suggest that you just wanted to let them know that you are going to have a lawyer working on it, they might be interested in talking to you (and maybe solving the problem?).

Sometime you just have to stand up for yourself.

You don’t have to win. You just have to be less of a target.

have you put the school on notice that if they don’t do something you will hire a lawyer? I would also point out to them the seriousness of this issue, as kids have become so despondent over bullying that they have taken their own lives before, and you are afraid that she could be pushed into such a serious scenario if the bullying continues, and that if they, the school, aren’t going to take this seriously, and address this issue NOW, that you will take them to court for failing to protect your daughter and to provide a safe environment for her to be in

Are you at the point of trying to resolve this with the school, or where you are going for a lawyer now? that makes a difference

I am sure any freeper in SC will answer your post but you may (if you are able to swing it) have her go to a Christian school in the area...I am not saying bullying doesn’t happen there but you may find the teachers and staff stopping it hard and quick if it happens. Plus with new surroundings she may flourish versus lawsuit and staying there. Though I would still be absolutely suing over her being punched- record EVERYTHING!

My sister went through this with her son during middle school. She went up to that school EVERY SINGLE DAY and also showed up at the school meetings. She made it such a big deal parents boycotted the school and it ended up for several weeks on the local news stations. It got fixed but the principal stepped in and made sure all classes were changed so that my nephew wasn’t even in the vicinity of the bullies classes so there paths didn’t cross plus they would touch base with him quietly throughout each day ...

Get a lawyer.

Threaten to sue the School administration, the School Board, the parents of the Bully.

It will stop..................

“...and contact HSLDA”

Great way to go. No doubt these folks have a lot of experience with the bullying problem and can set you on the right road.

Why schools won't have parent - or grandparent - volunteers to monitor the school grounds during recess or lunch is beyond me. Heck, even pay them a minimum wage, although I suspect there will be plenty of volunteers.

We had yard duty ladies all over the place, and our bathrooms had a monitor as well, so no sneaking off for a smoke. If kids wanted to fight they'd have to go off campus or in the alley behind the school to do their business.

Bullying has escalated dramatically in the last couple of decades. I suspect a little supervision would go a long way.

Document everything right now, dates and times of everything that has occurred. They hate documentation and hope that you’ll be sloppy and emotional. This will make things much easier for a lawyer to support your case.

59-63-110 “Safe School Climate Act.” This is on page 51.

https://safesupportivelearning.ed.gov/sites/default/files/discipline-compendium/South%20Carolina%20School%20Discipline%20Laws%20and%20Regulations.pdf

Just in case the school is not aware of the law.

It depends on the age. You didn’t say how old she was.

Teach your kid to fight or else she’ll be good hearted at the wrong time whole her life.

Hi Miss Edie.

I would highly recommend Russ Keep. He has an office on Hilton Head.
