YELLOWSTONE volcano could be about to erupt and challenge humanity’s existence as a spate of mini-quakes have been felt around the fearsome caldera.
During the month of April, a total of 63 earthquakes struck around the Wyoming based supervolcano. All of the tremors were relatively small, with the largest registering at 2.6 on the Richter scale, hitting on April 29. But experts have warned that it is not necessarily about the strength of an earthquake around a volcano, but more the quantity of them.
Some scientists believe that tremors around a volcano could be a sign that it might blow.
Portland State University Geology Professor Emeritus Scott Burns said a spate of small tremors around a volcano usually signifies that magma and gasses beneath the surface are beginning to navigate their exit.
He said: “If you get swarms under a working volcano, the working hypothesis is that magma is moving up underneath there.”
However, others disagree about whether an earthquake swarm near a volcano could be a sign of things to come.
Jamie Farrell at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, believes this is just part of the natural cycle for Yellowstone volcano, saying: “Earthquake swarms are fairly common in Yellowstone.
“There is no indication that this swarm is related to magma moving through the shallow crust.”
The Yellowstone Caldera supervolcano last erupted 70,000 years ago.
If the volcano were to erupt it would kill an estimated 87,000 people immediately and make two-thirds of the USA immediately uninhabitable.

I lived on an island in Puget Sound with a really good view of Mr. Ranier, a volcanic mountain that might spew lava at any time. When you live in this area, you accommodate. Much more likely to be sent to our reward by drivers in Seattle on a snowy day. Keystone-cops worthy clueless driving.

Spring is a great time to go, if you can tolerate the cold. Only about half the park roads were open, but there were few tourists. In the summer, the park gets quite crowded. We would literally drive into parking lots and look for other cars, reasoning that they would be parked near the interesting stuff.
I wouldn’t worry about an eruption. According to one of the park rangers, quite a bit of volcanic activity occurred prior to the last eruption, such as isolated lava flows. If such events should start happening, then it would be time to worry.
In addition, the next eruption won’t happen at the site of the current caldera, but at some point to the northeast. That is because a huge magma chamber, 400 miles deep, is under the tectonic plate which is sliding to the southwest. Given the size of previous eruptions, not only will anything at the site of the eruption be instantly destroyed, but about a third of the US will be destroyed by ash and poisonous gasses. An eruption would be so huge and catastrophic, but is also so unlikely in our lifetimes that it is not worth worrying about. The wild animals at Yellowstone are far more of an immediate danger to life and limb.
Do go see Yellowstone, it is definitely worth at least one visit in a lifetime.

I am afraid to drive at night here in Maryland, because of all the suicidal deer. I always try to stay behind other cars, so that they will hit the deer instead. That... sort of works.
Usually old people (like the Emeritus Professor at PSU) are eager for and proclaim imminent catastrophes. They want to see something spectacular before they die...

Why isn't it talked about more? There's no skim for people like our Imbecile Former VP to be had in a massive transfer of wealth from the productive to those who cannot, for whatever reason, adopt freedom and Capitalism and thrive.
But will happen soon? Maybe, maybe not. But considering the sinfulness and outright derangement of these times in America, it wouldn't be all that surprising.

Maybe because there have been a large uptick in earthquake swarms over the last couple of years, not to mention lifting of the land.
They’ll hear the explosion from Denver. Everything south and east of Yellowstone will be devastated all the way to the Atlantic. Lets hope it stays dormant.

Denver will hear the explosion be covered in three feet of ash or so and it will kill everything east and some west of the Rocky Mountains clear east to Ohio or so. Decimate farming and food growing in the Midwest. Throwing half the world into starvation from lack of US food and money. Best place to be is on the lookout at lower or upper Falls in Yellowstone. No suffering that way. Any survivors are in for a treat. IMO
Well, is this one later than Mt St Helen? I don’t recall 75% of the US becoming uninhabitable. What’s the diff?
It’ll be hard to breath prior to the ash fall due to the heat from the initial ejection of super heated material. Lets hope it’s delayed a few hundred years.
Size. Yellowstone is a Super Volcano.
