Russia which kept Damascus standing during the civil war in Syria reaps the fruits of the efforts, receiving privileges in the region.

During civil war the Syrian government resisted standing thanks to support of Russia. After the help rendered to Damascus both military, and material, Russia began to receive a response payment.

The Minister of Transport of Syria Ali Hammud said that Russian company JSC "Stroytransgaz" takes control of the largest port of the country in Tartus for a period of 49 years was transferred.

It is reported that the Russian company which received port will enclose investments in the amount of 500 million dollars.

The minister Hammud who shared information on this subject noted that the port of Tartus is not suitable for the large ships.

Productivity will increase

"Present infrastructure is not suitable for the ships with the displacement more than 30-35 kilotons, we should provide the sufficient depth of port that there cargo vessels with the displacement more than 100 kilotons could be moored" — Hammud specified. According to him, as a result of works on expansion it is going to increase productivity of port in East Mediterranean from four to 38 million tons per year.

Statement of Russia

The Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Yury Borisov noted in the statement: "The key question which should give positive dynamics is a question on use of the port of Tartus. We advanced very well on this issue, we hope that within a week the contract will be signed and the port of Tartus for 49 years will be transferred to Russia".

Tokatl ı: Russians reap the fruits, and we — immigrants.

Ahmet Adıgüzel: What our forefathers fought for. Russia implemented the dreams of access to our seas, unfortunately: (

alid.: And in Russia how many Syrian refugees?

Kitaplar: alid., very good question.

Suvasl ı Selefi: alid. Why would Syrians go to Russia if they already found the shelter from Russian bombings in Turkey? If not for the Russian imperialism would where be destroyed mosques, schools, hospitals in Aleppo, Homs, Eastern Ghouta, Daraa? The Nusayr and the traitor of Islam Assad presented the country free of charge to the Russian imperialism and free of any live Sunnites. And Alawites of RNP [Republican People's Party] in Turkey support Assad, they say, he fights against an imperialism.

ank: The one who deserves receives.

vahapli: Russia did not supported the villain Assad for nothing.

kara Bela: We were involved in war by deception. America, Russia, Iran created bases in Syria, and we care for the Syrian refugees, and besides we can do nothing without their permission.

iç rıza: For them meat, to us bone.

ismet: America worked for Russia, Turkey gets nothing.

Beterol esad: Nasty Assad, and Erdogan taught you some good sense in due time but you did not listen.

Sedat: Syria already became the oblast of Russia. Assad had no influence, he only performs functions of the governor.

Afacan: And where those who said what Assad will not live into another evening or morning?

Sedat: Afacan, there woudn't be Assad today if he did not sell the country to Russia and did not fall into its arms … Russia interfered, and he escaped.

TR: Turkey will refuse S-400 and will buy F-35 (F-35). Do not rend the air in vain.

vatan 1: In my opinion, we do not need to rely on Russia too. You do not pay attention.

Hjd: Did you expect Russia to give Assad to us and, therefore, the USA to carve? If not for Russia Assad would have been finished shortly the way of leaders of Iraq, Libya in due time. So Assad very well knows who saved him.

Yorum Tegin: Russia gets the warm seas, having used Turkey as a pawn against America and NATO. No, our government do not understand big politics, it can only steal from infrastructure projects.

ercan: Cream was eaten by Russia and America. Russia pulled hard on ports, America — on the oil pipeline in the north of Syria, and Turkey got five million refugees — thieves, rapists and terrorists.

gercekci: ercan, what did you expect? Did you expect that Erdogan "suddenly at night" would drag oil pipelines from Syria to Turkey?

hmmm: Here to you the result of political insight of our leaders… Also look at us … Our purpose, probably, was to rent four million Syrian refugees for 49 years:)) besides you were a victim of thinking which identifies dear leader Erdogan with Abdul-Hamid II.

CCC: What the dictator turned the country into.

vatanda ş: At the same time we were palmed off by five million Syrian immigrants.

sscb: This step narrowed zones of influence of the USA.

Kaybeden yine biz: And what is done by Turkey? Constant influx to the country of smelly Arabs. The USA and Russia receive lands, extract oil, eat the Syrian fruits. Turkey is the major loser in this war.

ne zaman: Kaybeden yine biz, we won.

saatçi: The Russians got the warm seas.!!

Anadolu Birlik: And we gave Batumi to Bolsheviks at the time:)))) The history continues.

ibrahim zübükzade: We only lost in the Syrian war. Someone reaps the fruits, someone takes out oil, and we got five million as you speak, illegal migrants …

Putin knew he’d get a juicy payoff for backing Assad... and he got a big one.

Mediterranean Port Tartus sounds like a snooty wine.

The increase of the annual tonnage (actually just the potential capacity) for the port makes little sense, because if there had been need for it before, it would have been expanded. Even if the money gets spent, there will be no more trade than before.

To increase nerd tourism, the name should be changed to Tardis, or better yet, The Tardis, the port that time forgot.

If a Russian company gets this 49 year lease and pays for improvements, Putin's already getting a cut.

I have no idea. Actually the company in question is dealing with gas transit infractructure. Maybe they want to build an LNG terminal.

Russia has always wanted a permanent warm-weather port at its disposal.

Well he!! yes. Russia wasn’t in the Middle East all these years just for their health. It was obvious and foreordained that if Assad survived, Russia would profit immensely. They already have had a major military seaport, everything else will just be gravy.

That regime change stuff was brilliant! If Assad had fallen, ISIS would’ve had a corridor to the Med, and the port would be part of the Caliphate. This is a better outcome than what happened in Libya.

There is a proposed Iran-Iraq-Syria pipeline. It might come from Iran. But that’s just one possibility. It sounds plausible based on a company involved. They won’t redevelop a port to bring automobiles and mobile phones from Syria to Russia for sure but LNG tankers are huge boats.
