Virginia Governor Ralph Northam on Thursday called for the removal of a 50-foot arch at Fort Monroe that honors the former president of the Confederacy - two months after a blackface scandal nearly ended his time in office.
The Daily Press reported that Northam's office presented a letter to the Fort Monroe Authority Board of Trustees supporting removal of the Jefferson Davis Memorial Arch, which was built near to where the first enslaved Africans arrived in Virginia some 400 years ago.
The board's eight members voted unanimously for the structure's removal, though this is likely to be a long process because Fort Monroe is designated a national historic landmark

Did it wear black-face?
The thing is, he has nothing to do with it. Just pandering for black votes.
Northam is such a sleazy ba$tard. He will do anything to divert attention from his own racism and deeds.
He was the fort’s most famous prisoner.
These idiots want to erase our history.
The thing is, he has nothing to do with it. Just pandering for black votes. It’s a way he can act like he’s doing something about a confederate name. When he’s doing nothing.
It’d be easier if he just resigned and was replaced by someone who didn’t wear black face or a Klan hood.
The Coonman says this is wrong. For now.
Yes he is! A whole new league of SLEAZY!!
Kate Smith, murals, Confederates, Washington, Jefferson, statues...
Raise your hand if you think it stops here?
Wow. My memory of the place is that it is where Jefferson Davis was imprisoned. Do they think that was a bad thing and needs to be erased? Weird.
Now, what about removing Al Jolson from the Governor’s Mansion?
Every time a racist Democrat screws up my ancestors legacy pays for it.
I see what you did there!
I call for his removal as governor.
Democrats == Taliban
He was a black Virginian, a trail blazer for what he is known for.
He was the first person in the colonies to legally own slaves.
Yes, the first person to own slaves in the now USA and Virginia was a black man.
Coonman STILL hasn’t resigned?
The guy who supports killing babies who are born alive? He’s outraged over some stones?
