Reparations: Done That
Vanity | 4/1019 | Vanity

Posted on 04/10/2019 6:07:38 AM PDT by DBCJR

The Republicans DID reparations back at the end of the Civil War. Reconstruction. It was brutal. Republicans wrested land away from the Democratic slave owners and gave “40 acres and a mule” to every Freedman. Why are Democrats still talking about it? Today 5 of the Democratic presidential candidates are talking about Reparations. They are a little late to the party they made necessary.

I read that the “40 acres and a mule” never actually happend-at least in significant quantities.

Can someone who knows (a lot more than me) please clarify?

Being White today is dangerous. Posting “It’s OK to be White” causes panic and calls to the police. Colleges teach that “Whiteness” must be eliminated. Reparations. Race-based preferences. “Affirmative action.”

Don’t forget those who got a free one way ticket to Liberia.

You are correct in that it did not last very long and most confiscated land returned to the original owner, but homesteading did occur and the black settlers kept that land.

Forty acres and a mule

I support reparations. By my estimate they owe us $12 Trillion for all the money we handed out to them, of which was TOTALLY WASTED.

No, the reparations were not given. The “40 acres and a mule” were referring to the land that General Sherman consfiscated (stolen) on his ‘March to the Sea’ and was labeled “Special Field Orders No. 15, which was approved by President Lincoln, and awarded agrarian land that was confiscated from former slave owners and awarded to Black Farmers. This was done more for appeasement and confiscation in the reconstruction to the south, and was considered an illegal Executive Order by many, if not outright theft. It never applied to the whole US and it was never voted on or adjudicated in the courts. In fact, if you want to see a similar situation, look at the theft of farmland from White Farmers in South Africa. It was nothing more than theft of Southern lands, as the ‘spoils of war’, and never decided in the courts. Of course, everyone has a different perspective on history, as some would say the ‘Southern lands’ were liberated from white ownership.

It appears they (speaking for their ancestors) are really sad about leaving their Motherland.

Perhaps, repatriation should be considered.

What difference does it make? The people living today were not harmed. As for reparations, 40 acres and a mule is insignificant to the TRILLIONS of dollars that have been given to the black race in the the endless stream of programs to lift them out of their “disadvantaged” status.

Some of my ancestors were driven from the Cherokee homelands. I don’t expect any reparations. Never mind all the broken treaties. By the way, all the programs have not done much to improve the lot of most Indians either.

For every $ given to a slave dependent, provide 2$ to the decendents of Union soldiers from the Civil War.

I’m with you brother! My grandfather made it out of Russia before the Czar’s jackboots came for him, and most of the family that remained were slaughtered by the Nazis. Just being alive and living as a free man in America, with real human rights that even the government cannot take away is so wonderful that every American should wake up giddy with Happiness and Graditude! Here’s my suggestion: “Here, Take this reperations money and get out of this country that you hate and, in the words of Armstrong Williams ‘Find a better Country ‘. Good Riddance!

One way?
Many have dual citizenship/ visas to visit with their families residing in the US.

Many of them had white blood, an education, and consequently created the two tiered social system giving rise to Doh.

When they got there, they brought a little taste of America with them: they immediately enslaved their fellow man, the indigenous .”Whitey” controlled the businesses, land and the government. Doh’s uprising was an attempt to break that.

Then when Charlie Taylor came along, many, (the smart ones) ran and hid in the US of A.

That void of escaped knowledge, experience and decency still plagues liberia today..... with a new generation of fools running the government.

But then again, we almost had a coupe, led by a zebra..... supported by a new generation of fools : anti Christian, marxist-muslim fools and other assorted assholes.

They were close to being successful in the Death of America!
MAGA

An interesting anecdote from the period is one way how landholders managed to cheat sharecroppers out of their due payments.

The system was set up so that sharecroppers would grow their crops, then give them to the landowners to sell, receiving payment set by law, under the eye of the local Sheriff. However, side deals were allowed.

At the time, most sharecroppers were uneducated and their understanding of money was of low denomination coins. Banking and checks were unknown to them. So in the gathering of sharecroppers to get their pay, landholders would have checks in hand, for say $50 each. But then they would make a side offer.

You can have this piece of paper, or this old hat, full of shiny nickles and dimes. And you get to keep the hat.

Most of the time they would opt for the hat, not knowing what to do with that piece of paper. And most banks would not cash checks unless you had an account with them.

Being in America IS reparations.
If they feel “enslaved” here, they can go back to the country of their origin.
I certainly hope that none of these reparation seeking individuals are on welfare and getting food stamps with free health care.

But they didn’t give each freedman an obamaphone and a free breakfast and lunch for each of their kids at school every day. It’s always going to be something more. Nothing will ever be solved.
