Did the yacht owners blame your uncle for the loss? Maybe thought he abandoned ship too soon?

No blame on his part...he had good relationship with owners...and good reputation.

My brother pays the captain of his boat house a nice six figure income.

That's to keep her from divorcing him......

My uncle was a yacht salesman for Chris Craft based out of Grand Haven, MI back in the late 60's and 70's. He also had a captains's license so he would also do boat deliveries.

After I got out of the Army in Jan. of 1972, I immediately got a job at a manuf. plant here in Detroit but was laid off a month later. In the beginning of May, I got a call from my uncle asking me if I wanted to crew for him on a yacht delivery he had to make from Minnesota all the way to the Gulf of Mexico, down the Mississippi river.

That would have been an experience of a life time for me but I had to decline since I had just been called back to work at the plant a week later.........

Not long after that, I got a call from Chrysler for a job interview......I worked my entire life at the plant but missed a trip on the Mississippi. Who knows what fate would have had for me had I gone with my uncle then got hired by Chrysler.........LOL!

Nope, no license. I drive my yacht and don’t have one. Got a driver’s license, but, not a car.

We live aboard, and, drive our own boat.

It’s spelled Yacht, but, it’s pronounced Throat-Wobbler Mangrove!

Maybe he just didn’t feel up to it then. He does drive it on short trips now.

Walked out. And that is why he lived to tell the story.

When I was in high screwl I worked at a marina. I saw a lot of stupidity and a hell of a lot more money than good sense.
