Ive been informed that the way we celebrate Womens Day in western society is a little bit weak compared to the way they do it in Russia which might have something to do with the fact that the Soviets basically invented the holiday.
Long before the world had International Womens Day, Soviet Russia had Working Womens Day, where it was first declared a national holiday as early as 1917. The United Nations didnt adopt the March 8th celebration until 1975 when it became an official international holiday in the West, and the communist-associated worker element was hastily dropped from the holidays title.
In the immediate aftermath of the 1917 Russian revolution, the USSR had established equal pay for men and women, as well as the right to abortion in 1920 making it the first country to do so, more than 50 years before the United States.
Under Vladimir Lenins communist rule, the worlds first female ministerial positions were appointed. Homosexuality was legalised in 1917 for both men and women (before being criminalised again by Stalin in 1933). But lets remind ourselves of how it all began
International Working Womens Day was born in the aftermath of a womens demonstration on March 8th, 1917 in Petrograd. It was the demonstration that would spark the Russian Revolution
The first country to declare Womens Day a national holiday was Soviet Russia, followed by the communists in China from 1922 and then the Spanish communists in 1936. By the way, in both China and Spain, the March 8th holiday is still known as Working Womens Day."

Western society would probably prefer to claim this holiday as its own the earliest observance of Womens Day was held in New York City on February 28, 1909 it might be worth noting that this earliest observance was organised by the now defunct Socialist Party of America...The 1909 observance was also not a formal or official celebration.
"now defunct"...sadly not.

I’m holding out for “International White Man’s Day.”
Between Earth day, labor day, may day?, kanza .black history month, bashing Columbus day and Christmas... and now this...a lefties calendar is quite full.
Actually, it was started in New York by the Socialist Party of America. Incidentally, this same bunch supported the red takeover in Russia with many well known US writers jumping on the bandwagon.
Yes see post #1
Shouldnt it be International Womyns Day?
I bet you wish you never would have opened that Can of Worms.
How do I know? I live in Russia. If I did not buy my wife chocolates and flowers today, she would have kicked my butt!
There is no mention of "feminism" today. It is day of appreciation for the "weaker" sex.
I have actually had Millenial business contacts wishing me a Happy Womens’ Day today.
I tell them “I am not a woman, and I have no plans to become one.”
I know...as with everything Soviet, Russia keeps the outline and by not outright denouncing it, opens door for West to take its turn with the meat.
Same goes for its continued reverence for Lenin, muted neutrality/appreciation for Stalin...
Did ALL of America support Obama's policies?
Even passivity is tantamount to complicitness. The West is culturally Sovietizing not because of the extremes of liberals but the weak irresoluteness of Christians and conservatives.
And in Russia, WWII idolatry leaves no room for dissent or questioning of the USSR legacy as a whole. Even though Poles and others view the Soviets and Nazis as equally evil occupiers not liberators as the Russians deem their role.
I would answer you. But that might look like something they call “collusion” now.
I’ve been searching WalMart, Kohls, Bi-Lo and the local library and can’t find even one International Womens Day woman.
Are they only in Russia and NYC?
If you find one, please post a picture.
Thanks
Now to be known as Captain Marvel Day.
