I wonder if the police can obtain a phone recording of the actual call.
Phone recordings are kept for a limited time by the phone companies.
The delay in releasing the records may be an attempt to insure the phone recording is not available.
This source says all telephone conversations are kept for five years! That was in 2013!
Such recordings may not be available to local police, such as the Chicago P.D., for example.
He erased a bunch of stuff.
They have Jussies records from within an hour of the incident. The police confirmed receipt of the records at [2:28 p.m. EST].
Cops requested Smolletts phone records to corroborate a call he said he had with his manager Brandon Z. Moore during the attack.

...records from within an hour of the incident...? What the hell does that mean? Starting an hour AFTER the attack or an hour BEFORE?

Did he deliver his physical phone? Did he fill out paperwork that would allow his telecomm carrier to communicate information to the police without violating privacy laws?
Maybe it’s me, but the writing here makes it sound like Jussie walked into the police station with a folder full of paper and said, “Here are my phone records”.
Smollett was called a f-t and a n-r.
Damn those Fatalist Necromancers to hell.
Another entry on the literal fake hate crimes list

isn’t it possible to check cell phone records to see who else the cell towers were pinging in the same location at the same time? A guy in our area was charged with murder and cell tower records verified he was in the area of the murder when he claimed he was 100 miles away. He is serving life.
Hey, he has to be able to respond to hits on his Grindr profile quickly or else he may miss a good hookup opportunity.
No, the police need phone records from the phone company, not from his manager.
From what I have read, he edited his phone records before handing them over. I suspect the cops can retrieve the rest of the phone records in due time.
The CPD is trying to establish a timeline and see if it's consistent with what Jussie has told them.
Even so, the timeline will likely prove nothing either way.
Yes, the phone records show Jussie did call his manager at 2AM and they talked for 5 minutes.
That doesn't prove or disprove there was an attack.
The CPD are dragging this out because their only hope at this point is the longer this goes on the greater the likelihood Jussie will trip up.
He will never be prosecuted for this lie. He has two protective get out of jail cards.
Compulsory jail time for hoaxes.
NOT the SAME phone, most likely!!
