Dem thinks POTUS, VP should release their tax returns but not Nancy Pelosi; she’s wrong

Full headline: Rep. Judy Chu thinks POTUS, VP should have to release their tax returns but not Nancy Pelosi — she’s wrong on both counts

Since before the 2016 election Democrats (and some Republicans) have pushed POTUS Donald Trump to release his tax returns but after initially pledging to do so once auditors were finished with them, he has changed his mind.

Now the new House Democrat majority wants to force the president to release his returns, along with Vice President Mike Pence under legislation known as H.R. 1.

On Jan. 3, the first day of the 116th Congress, Rep. John Sarbanes (D-Md.) introduced H.R. 1, called the “For the People Act of 2019.” Democrats obviously believe that the most pressing issue facing America today is knowing the extent of the president’s wealth.

But Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.), doesn’t believe H.R. 1 should extend to the tax returns of the third person in line to the presidency, the Speaker of the House — at least now while the Speaker is a fellow Democrat.

Politicians should stop this nonsense now. None of them should release their tax returns under any circumstances. If they file a joint return, it should be illegal to do so.

Everyone running for public office should have to release their tax records.

WHY?

If you have committed a crime of tax evasion then it is public. Tax returns are nobody’s business as long as they are legal and that is for the IRS and the courts to decide. Not you or anyone else.

This is not a question of law. This is a matter of politics.

Previous candidates released tax returns because they thought it would be politically expedient. Trump chose not to, but was elected anyway.

Trump’s election settled the political question.

Why should it be illegal for them to file a joint return?

I’m completely against that. I would agree to a candidate having to submit proof he is in compliance and up to date with the IRS. The rest is nobodys business.

Not to file one, it should be illegal for a politician to release a joint return, it would violate the privacy of the politician’s spouse.

I think all politicians should make every one of their tax returns public so we can find out how they become millionaires when not being paid millions from their gig on the hill.

Is that "requirement" right next to the collusion statute? Near the infringement paragraph close to the late term abortion clause? Can't find those? Me neither. 😡

Sorry, your position is very much counter to the Fourth Amendment and is on it’s face, unconstitutional.

Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Anyone who releases someone else’s tax returns to the public without that person’s consent should be subject to a minimum 10-year prison term and a felony record.

If there was anything nefarious about
Trumps tax returns, we’d know it by now.
With being a billionaire comes and army
of tax lawyers. The IRS would hold the
reins tight. The Dems’s are posturing,
trying to make it look like Trump is
trying to hide something.

Everyone calling for everyone running for public office to release their tax records should have to release their tax records.

WHY?

Last time I checked, it’s not a CONSTITUTIONAL REQUIREMENT.

I don’t give a damn about how much money somebody makes or how they spend it.

People who’ve spent most of their adult lives in elective offices should all be required to release their tax returns along with their spouse, and possibly even relatives who’ve realized financial benefits because of their connections to a member of Congress.

The public has a far greater justification see the returns of those sorts than someone who made their fortune in private business before they even sought elective office.

There’s a long list of senators and reps and spouses who should be required to release their tax returns for multiple years.
