Season preview

As with the last five seasons, this season will be held in the Mamanuca Islands, Fiji. This will be the 7th time overall that the show has been held in Fiji. It will consist of 14 new players and 4 returning players divided into two tribes.

Four former Survivor players to return for Edge of Extinction season

The players range in age from 19 to 46. There are five from California (including four from Southern California), two each from Georgia and New York, and one each from Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington.

Functionally, Edge of Extinction operates like most other Survivor seasons, at least at first glance: two tribes compete in head-to-head challenges, with the losing faction heading to Tribal Council to vote out one of their own. The roads begin to diverge from there, as the eliminated player will leave Tribal, only to discover they aren't quite as extinct as they believed. Heading down the long and lonely path of elimination, the ousted player will encounter a sign at the end of the road, offering them one of two choices: throw in the towel, or follow an additional path to get on a boat and continue the game.

Those who choose to exercise the second option will wind up stranded in a remote location known as Extinction Island, a barren wasteland with little to offer its inhabitants beyond the faint winds of hope, and harsher winds off the ocean. The otherwise abandoned beach contains a few scattered remnants of a shipwreck (props, as always, to Dax Pointon and Zac Jensen, childhood friends who grew up to become leaders of the Survivor art department), including a broken mast with a sign that reads: "Welcome to the Edge of Extinction." There they will remain, until they reach an opening to return to the game — and if they decide the road toward that chance is too long and grueling to bare, they can always send up the white flag on the broken ship mast, signaling their official withdrawal from the million dollar adventure.

"..rude.."²

Maybe..

But on the occasion when I'm stuck somewhere I don't have any control over the TV and I see what's passed off as "entertainment" these days I'm ever more convinced that we truly are headed to "Idiocracy".

I’m not really a fan of returning players. Sometimes, yes, but overall, I think it’s overdone. Aubry three times, please. :(

Kelley Wentworth explains why she returned for Survivor: Edge of Extinction
https://ew.com/tv/2019/02/04/survivor-kelley-wentworth-edge-of-extinction/

Kelley Wentworth’s Survivor career has been anything but easy. She’s pretty much had to play from the bottom in both her outings (Survivor: San Juan del Sur and Survivor: Cambodia — Second Chance) — always fighting against the grain and trying to crack the majority. Throw in a so-close-but-just-not-close-enough finish to Second Chance (when she was one day away from the final 3 and, potentially, one million dollars), and you could see how she might be frustrated by her time on the island.

But Kelley is back for her third shot at the money as one of four returning players competing in Survivor: Edge of Extinction (premiering Feb 20 on CBS). Why put herself through this all over again? How has she changed as a person since we last saw her play? How does she think she would have done in Second Chance had the final four fire-making twist been in place back then? And would she consider playing for a fourth time if this one doesn’t work out? We travelled out to Fiji and talked to Kelly just before filming began, and here’s what the fan favorite had to say about embarking on her latest adventure.

What I really like is how people come onto a thread that normally wouldn’t interest them...just to tell people they couldn’t care less. I guess it’s some sort of personality disorder...or just plain loneliness? A need to feel important? After all, I’m sure if the list of stuff you liked were made public...there would be plenty of people to line up and call one or more things useless and a waste of time. I would imagine the list would be long and distinguished. However, in a civilized society, some people learn to keep their mouths shut. On the other hand, some just can’t keep their opinions to themselves and think everyone wants to hear them. I guess that’s you.
