Have to be honest, it’s the 1st time I have ever heard it. I would have been 14-15 depending on the month it was released and played. Since it became a top 10 hit it must have been played often too. At that age I was usually out playing some kind of sandlot sport, and I didn’t listen to the radio that much either.
Never heard it either but then our small town radio never would of played it.
I would think that small town America would be more likely to. Perhaps it was the father sanctioning the long hair. 8>)
I recall hearing this in my late teens. In fact, it was a part of what led to me deciding to enlist rather than be drafted when I received my draft notice in early 1969.
