Poland's Christian Migrants
First Things ^ | July 20, 2018 | Filip Mazurczak

In 2016, Poland issued 586,000 first residence permits to nationals of non–European Union countries. Poland issued more such permits that year than did any other EU member-state except Britain—and more than Germany (505,000), which has more than double Poland’s population.

The vast majority of these non-EU migrants have come from the former Soviet Union, especially from Ukraine, a nation plagued by war, poverty, and corruption.

In late 2017, 1.45 million Ukrainians were working legally in Poland. In a country of 38 million, that amounts to nearly 4 percent of the population, and between 4 and 6 percent of the workforce. One in ten inhabitants of Wroclaw, the fourth largest Polish city, is Ukrainian. It’s impossible for a Polish speaker to visit Poland without noticing advertisements in Cyrillic, and vast numbers of cashiers, waiters, and building contractors who speak with “eastern” accents. Increasingly, Roman Catholic parishes are making their churches available to Ukrainian priests so that they can celebrate the Greek Catholic liturgy.

Contrary to its nationalistic and anti-immigrant image in much of the Western press, the Polish government encourages these newcomers from the east to stay. Currently, the Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Policy is working on a bill that would allow skilled workers from six countries—Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine—to become permanent residents after working legally in Poland for two and a half years.

The Polish government encourages non-white, non-European immigration as well. The Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Policy is negotiating with the Philippine government a bilateral agreement that would bring to Poland thousands of immigrants. Eighty percent of Filipinos are Catholic, and, like the Poles, Filipinos have a long history of fighting against subjugation by foreign powers.

The Polish government is, however, wary of immigration from Muslim-majority countries.

Interesting topic. Dr. Ligaya Acosta from Human Life International wrote about going to Poland to teach the Filipino community there about chastity, natural family planning, and pro-life virtue. I remember being surprised that there was a large community of Filipino women in Poland.

I expect that Poland views Ukrainians, Belorussians, and other Slavic peoples as fellow victims of centuries of Russian domination. And Filipinas are the whole world’s nannies and geriatric nurses.

I believe I’ve read, as well, that there are more Polish immigrants in the U.K. than Muslims, but they don’t get much publicity because they don’t make trouble. They form a significant chunk of Catholic parishioners in Britain.

Ukrainians will become Poles fairly quickly.

I know there are a lot of Poles in the U.K. and Ireland, but I don’t know the exact numbers vis-a-vis Moslems. However, since Poland is an E.U. member, it’s extremely likely that Poles outnumber immigrants from anywhere but Commonweath countries.

The parents of Kathleen’s friend Caroline up the street are from Poland. Caroline’s dad has an electrical firm, and her mother teaches at the Polish School of Charlotte, which Caroline and her brother Robert attend. (I know this because Kathleen is disappointed that they don’t get home until 4:30 on weekdays.)

“I remember being surprised that there was a large community of Filipino women in Poland.”

The largest export from the Philippines is woman working as domestic helpers (Maids). There are are for example over 250,000 Filipino women in Hong Kong employed in this capacity. Filipino women go all around the world to work as maids, nannies and au pairs.

Many of them are married with a lay-about chronically non-employed husband back on Luzon or Manila who sits around drinking beer and gambling off the wife’s earnings.

It said a lot about the Philippines that this is the case and what it says isn’t good.

“The aim of these changes is to make it easier for the citizens of six culturally similar countries who have qualifications related to professions needed for the Polish economy to settle in Poland.”

Wow. A European country that gets it. My heart be still, there is hope.

UK Romanians beat the crap out of Muslims after they tried to stop them from drinking

The UK has not pussified the Romanians.

Remains to be seen. To hold their country against the Ottoman invaders, Romanians will have to pull their birthrate out of the extinction spiral.

Fighting for your booze is easy and fun. Reproducing your nation and culture is a long, hard process.

Yes, that’s true. The disaster for families is on a level with that for Latin Americans, although the process is a little different. A Mexican or Salvadoran man comes to the United States, leaving his wife and children at home. He finds a new woman in the U.S. and has more children. The wife is abandoned, leaves the children with grandparents, and comes to the U.S. separately from her husband. She finds a new man and has more children.

The older children, born in Mexico or El Salvador, are at the greatest risk for gang and crime involvement.

Dr. Acosta found that many expatriate Filipinas had sexual relationships, abortions, children outside marriage, and so on. She was working to open their eyes to the harm they did themselves through all this.

Filipinos have the Couples for Christ Global Mission to support Christian marriages and family life wherever there’s a Filipino community. We have a chapter here in Charlotte, NC.

I would love to vacation there, no Muslims, and so much history and good food, beer. Problem is the airfare is prohibitive.

When Germany has fallen into the dark pit of decadence and destruction, along with the rest of Western Europe, Poland will have the last laugh.

There is some history between Poles and Ukrainians, namely the Bandera-ites.

Poland is awesome, the prices are low, you eat like a king for not much money at all.

Krakow definitely is your first choice. Warsaw is a mixed-bag, now personally, I like it a lot, because of all the history, and it’s growing like crazy, with lots of nice restaurants.

Next time I go to the country I have two major places I want to go: The Gdansk-Sopot-Gdynia area and Zakopane.

If it wasn’t for Poles, there would be no Catholics left in Ireland.
