When Germans Worry, Where do they Turn?
TheTrumpet ^ | May 2018 | Richard Palmer

The break over the Iran deal follows the break over the climate change agreement and the prospect of a trade war between the European Union and the United States. It raises the specter of a much deeper and wider break with the U.S.

For the first time in 70 years, Germany’s role in the world is uncertain. Its allegiance is up for grabs. Where will it turn?

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s overseas trips have revealed her response to this dilemma. She has turned to Russia and China.

An Eastern alliance—or Ostpolitik as it is known in Germany—has long been the nation’s backup plan.

One of the key items on the agenda is the Nord Stream 2 pipeline connecting Russia and Germany. The pipeline allows Putin to cut off East European countries from Russian gas, while still supplying Western Europe via Germany. It turns this gas weapon into a precision tool. Germany meanwhile gets cheaper gas to fuel its exporting machine and becomes an energy hub for Russian gas.

America hates the deal.

The Wall Street Journal reported last week that Mr. Trump wants Germany to drop the pipeline in exchange for America dropping the threat of a trade war. But Germany seems poised to choose Russia over the U.S.—even risking U.S. sanctions.

Ms. Merkel’s next trip was to China—her 11th trip during her 12 years in office. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang promised that the nation’s door “will open even wider” to Germany.

These visits are signs of a shift by Germany away from the U.S. and toward an alliance with America’s enemies.

If I’m Germany, I want access to fuel. Russia wouldn’t be my first choice, but they are no worse than Saudi Arabia. Just have a Plan B for when they want to turn off the spigot.

Merkel lived under the Soviet thumb. Does she desire to return to her old life?

Back around 1933, Germany had to choose between the National Socialist Workers Party or the German Communist Party backed by Stalin.

It look 80 years, but (with help from the lady from East Germany), we now have Germany under the heel of Russia.

I thought Germany was the leader of the eu. I thought they were poised to take over from the USA. Why would they have to turn to anyone?

Hitler had a similar plan B with Russia. Didn’t work out too well for him.

If history is any guide it’s usually Poland and France.

USA neo-conieving has made a Huge mess of things in Germany and europe.
US largely created the Syria refugee mess by doing the military bidding of Qatar and Saudi Arabia who sought to overthrow Syria’s Assad in order to run a oil / gas pipeline to europe.
Everyone in Europe is aware that our C intelligence agency used our special forces to train and fund Al Nursa which soon became ISIS-ISIL who terrorized, raped, burned to death, killed thousands and drove millions out of their countries seeking “refuge” in Germany, Italy, Sweden, France, etc.

So, in light of those US ownership creative destruction misadventures, it’s only natural that Germany / Europe would pivot toward Russia.

Its very common to hear european’s legitimately exclaim, With “friends” like the US, who needs enemies?
Russia is their least worst energy allie choice.
Obama, Hillary and deep state deliberately ruined what little moral authority we had.
Russia is a less chaotic frienemy in their mind.

“Back around 1933, Germany had to choose between the National Socialist Workers Party or the German Communist Party backed by Stalin.”

The differences were at best, academic. There is a historical reason the nazi flag was a red banner.

This is an empty threat. China is just as mercantile as Germany. Germany won’t be dumping a bunch of exports into China without getting just as many if not more in return. Russia? They have oil and gas. What else? Not much. Their economy is not that big.

Not for want of the Russians trying to play ball with him. It was Hitler, not Stalin who broke up their pact.
