Has anyone noticed that when watching The Weather Channel as of late, the meteorologists have come to the point of obsession about the near-absence of tornadic storms usually encountered in the United States, namely "Tornado Alley", at this time of year? It seems they're actually disappointed in not seeing this killer weather phenomenon as they would like and are doing what I call "cheerleading".
Nearly every discussion and numerous videos of past and recently encountered tornadoes dominate 24 hrs a day. They're saying the reason for this is to keep people informed on how to stay safe during such storms, do and don't dos, etc.
Well, they're The Weather Channel, that's their job--keeping people informed--but I truly believe they will bring out the party hats, balloons, cake and ice cream if, God forbid, an outbreak or a single EF3 or worse tornado hits.
Hadn’t noticed that, and its on a lot of the time. But they do seems to have twice as many on air personalities than they need, and struggle to find chatter or news items to hold viewer interests
They get better ratings in times of severe weather I’d bet.
Damn climate change.
Like David Hogg moping around between school shootings.
I used to watch the Weather Channel when they ran movies (with the bottom weather scroll) that featured the weather.
Yes, they sometimes stretched it, but I became aware of "okay" movies I missed back when I actually went to the movies.
And, they'd run the same movie back to back.
Any way, one movie night, they kept interrupting the movie because of a pending tornado outbreak in Arkansas/Alabama.
The movie nights disappeared after that.
Yes, it’s Weather Porn.
It really gets them into high gear.
You have listed yourself as the author.
It’s YOU who produces the material at the weather channel?
Really? Just you? All by yourself?
Because that’s what you’ve posted, that you are the author of the material.
Or maybe were you lying a little?
They hyped the above average tornado season that we had previously as clear evidence of Global Warming. A below average season doesn’t fit into the narrative.
And only a couple of hurricanes after 13 years! But they keep claiming GW is causing severe weather- even though it isn’t.
Storms = viewers = ratings. That’s the only thing that matters. Gotta sell those ads.
Are you kidding? An EF0 tornado hit Baldwin County Alabama on Sunday and damaged 5 RVs.
IMHO, they spent years building up a brand with their weather on the eights. Now they have weather on the eights perhap twice per hour. Too much reality programming. Not worth watching anymore even for background noise.
It seems that the cold weather is hanging on later, but not uncommonly. We are not through April yet. It doesn’t get really hot until the middle of June. But watch those forcasts when the weather goes suddenly warm and hits all this wet cold air.
It takes a lot of training to become a Meteorologist.
You have to be fluent in specific types of mathematics and calculation methods. Plus, you have to come across good on camera. Not too nervous, not too bored, definitely not too technical. Not enough air time for the full story.
I’m no Number Cruncher, per se. I couldn’t do it without lots of help. I don’t have an engineer’s mind. Not surprising that some Weather people want a chance to strut their stuff every so often.
In some parts of the country, as with here in Northern California, the weather can be maddeningly similar from week to week, even month to month. I can see a Weatherman or Weatherwoman feeling like a Firefighter who is so hungry for some ‘action’ that they toy with the idea of setting fires on their own.
Of course, 99.999% would never do that in real life.
You tell us. You're the one who claims to be the author of the weather report.
Were you making a joke or being a liar?
Well they had a ten year hurricane drought...they were really excited last year..
