Economy class cabins may be about to resemble sardine tins rather than cattle trucks in the near future.

That’s because an Italian seat manufacturer has unveiled seating that’s so upright passengers using it will practically be standing up.

Should any carriers install it, they will be able to cram in more fliers than ever before, in a formation that’s known in the industry as ‘ultra-high density’.

Ironic if one is talking about short flights from Sardinia to major European hub airports that seating might be tolerable.

One of the reasons flying is cheap is that deregulation allowed carriers to make it cheap. You want all the trimmings of a 1960’s flight? Taht’s what first class is for. :)

Oddly, I find that the most comfortable coach seats I’ve ever sat in are on Alliance flights. Those seets are like hollow fiberglass shells with a padded front. They don’t even fold down. However, not only are they very comfortable, but I believe they have more leg room.
