Most of the potatoes are planted, but we still have a few left to plant. Tomato, Peppers, etc. starts are in the green house. We had some sweet potatoes from the grocery store, and hubby cut them and used to start some plants which he will transplant later.
I found the peach tree label for the zone 4 tree from Stark Bros. It was Intrepid dwarf.
Have a great weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.
Pinging the list.
The Mrs. brought home some daffodils today. They had been brought in by a co-worker. I’ve never planted daffodil bulbs before. I expect them to wither now and we’ll see what comes up next spring.
Too busy this glorious, sunny, warm week to get anything done outdoors until today.
It started raining around noon, and it’s just getting wetter and wetter out there. The ditch in front of the house has 6” of water, and it was dry (as in I was thinking about the sprinkler for the lawn) this morning.
Rhodo dead-headed, camellia half-done, woodpile moved, then for shelter I ran.
Maybe next week...
Mangoes are in full force here. I am dehydrating two dehydrators of them a day. I’m giving them away and letting neighbor kids have them if they want some. Each tree will produce about 600 pounds and we have four trees. So, we’ll literally have a more than a ton before this crops all falls.
Miss Simmons (that’s what we call the Persimmon tree) is loaded this year, but expecting heavy winds and rain tomorrow night...then cooler weather. Hope we don’t lose too many of the future fruit.
i finally got started on the raised beds. it was near 80 today but might snow on monday.
i got the swiss chard planted and the blueberries fertilized. I baby those b.b. bushes because they were so scraggly when we inherited them, but they are growing new shoots, 2 are about 5 tall, and all are loaded with flowers.
lettuces are coming up, as are peas and arugula. and cilantro.
bought 7-50# sacks of 6-12-12 and one of 34-0-0 for the big garden and orchard. And beet seeds. Beet and chard seeds are the only ones i but since i cannot get them to come back the 2nd year and provide me with seeds! i did get carrots and onions to do that, though.
Greetings from southern New Hampshire, where spring has dropped in for a short visit, and will be leaving tomorrow as a wintery mix is forecast.
I rerouted and repaired the plumbing between the duck pond and the bog filter and the ducks approve, as does Household Six. Also had to latch down the waterfall feed in the pond under the pergola in the garden. It got moved by wind or critter and drained the pond. That is all squared away.
The autopsy results on the bees was, big surprise, mites. This next week, I will clean the bottom boards of both hives in preparation for the arrival of the new packages, next month.
Household SIxs seedlings are doing well, down in the basement.
The last, lingering snow pile, what was shed from the north side of the Chicken and Duck Chateau, is nearly gone.
We are driving over to East Wakefield, NH to visit our 5th wheel. Need to take measurements of the deck for outdoor carpeting and the side belly box for a larger TV. We have honed roughing it to a fine art.

Here in CNY, I’ve been able to start turning the soil over.
That’s about as far as we’ve gotten.
I actually did plant some scallion seeds and b=put an old under the bed box bottom over it to make a mini cold frame of sorts. They are actually UP!
However, we have an ice storm warning for today for the whole state and VT and NH and part of ME.
Spring has nowhere near come yet and we are sick of it.
On the bright side, I suppose, is that there’s no danger of losing the fruit tree crop due to an early bloom and late freeze. The trees are nowhere near setting their buds.
The forecast for Sunday’s high temp is 38. It’s beautiful here in Massachusetts today, though!
I brought the Florida sunshine back home to Central Missouri, but I lost my grip on the warmer temps and those were left behind. Got home at 1:00am this morning.
Plum trees are in full bloom, peaches are working on it. Asparagus is just starting to peek out of the ground. The kale and spinach I seeded earlier is up.
I stopped by the feed store this morning and picked up six bales of straw to bed my spuds. I’m going to get them in the ground and mulched today. Also picked up the baby chickens that I ordered a couple weeks ago and got them set up in the brooder house.
Heading to Montauk Spring on Thursday for a week of trout fishing.
I’m really not looking forward to going back to work next month...
Howdy! Here in Saratoga NY it’s going to snow this afternoon. Just a little bit, but still.... how are you all coping with the extended winter?
I’ve got a question about yards and ground cover, I hope someone around here can help.
We acquired an auxiliary dog (of unknown parentage) in October, and the tiny puppy is now an 8 month old, 90 pound, God-only-knows-what.
Between the 2 the yard is overwhelmed and every blade of grass is gone.
For months I’ve been trying to find an alternative ground cover, and although there may be some creeping stuff that might survive I don’t think it would have a chance to take root.
I’m at the point where I have $800 worth of artificial grass rug in my Amazon cart, but geeze I can’t afford to really buy it.
To cover it with pavers or patio would be even more expensive.
I guess it’s about 1200 square foot total, but I only need to cover about 600 square feet of that.
The Big Guy will eat mulch, so that’s out.
ANY suggestions short of giving them away??
Thanks for reading, thanks for any help.
