The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.

From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.

This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are

Greetings from Missouri. Weather here has been too rainy to do much - ground is too wet. We had some freezing temps at night. The peach trees didn't get nipped too bad. So we are hoping that's the last frost, but nothing is assured at this point.

Most of the potatoes are planted, but we still have a few left to plant. Tomato, Peppers, etc. starts are in the green house. We had some sweet potatoes from the grocery store, and hubby cut them and used to start some plants which he will transplant later.

I found the peach tree label for the zone 4 tree from Stark Bros. It was Intrepid dwarf.

Have a great weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.

The Mrs. brought home some daffodils today. They had been brought in by a co-worker. I’ve never planted daffodil bulbs before. I expect them to wither now and we’ll see what comes up next spring.

Too busy this glorious, sunny, warm week to get anything done outdoors until today.

It started raining around noon, and it’s just getting wetter and wetter out there. The ditch in front of the house has 6” of water, and it was dry (as in I was thinking about the sprinkler for the lawn) this morning.

Rhodo dead-headed, camellia half-done, woodpile moved, then for shelter I ran.

Maybe next week...

That reminds me, our daffodils and hyacinths are blooming.

Mangoes are in full force here. I am dehydrating two dehydrators of them a day. I’m giving them away and letting neighbor kids have them if they want some. Each tree will produce about 600 pounds and we have four trees. So, we’ll literally have a more than a ton before this crops all falls.

Ha. We have a hard rain, lightning and thunder going on right now. I went out and sat in the green house for a bit earlier-just before sun down. I love to watch and listen to the rain. However, I do hate to get wet. LOL

Wow. That’s a lot of fruit. I really hope we get some sort of fruit this year. I plan to can, freeze, and dehydrate if we do.

Miss Simmons (that’s what we call the Persimmon tree) is loaded this year, but expecting heavy winds and rain tomorrow night...then cooler weather. Hope we don’t lose too many of the future fruit.

We have an American Persimmon pretty prolific and rarely gets zapped. What sort do you have?

Rain is so calming. i have one of those sound machines - my favorites are rain, the train, and meadow sounds.

i finally got started on the raised beds. it was near 80 today but might snow on monday.

i got the swiss chard planted and the blueberries fertilized. I baby those b.b. bushes because they were so scraggly when we inherited them, but they are growing new shoots, 2 are about 5’ tall, and all are loaded with flowers.

lettuces are coming up, as are peas and arugula. and cilantro.

bought 7-50# sacks of 6-12-12 and one of 34-0-0 for the big garden and orchard. And beet seeds. Beet and chard seeds are the only ones i but since i cannot get them to come back the 2nd year and provide me with seeds! i did get carrots and onions to do that, though.

I need to get started on the raised beds too. However, the ones with wheat, rye, and garlic likely will not be ready to harvest till June. So I don’t have a lot of space left for anything.

I have one of those machines too. My grand daughter likes the birds, but I like the rain/storm.

This little guy is checking out the status of the back deck area. We have to be selective with what we plant outside the fenced garden...
