Imagine your least-favorite world leader. (Take as much time as you need.)
Now, imagine if that person wasn't a human, but a network of millions of computers around the world. This digi-dictator has instant access to every scrap of recorded information about every person who's ever lived. It can make millions of calculations in a fraction of a second, controls the world's economy and weapons systems with godlike autonomy and scariest of all can never, ever die.
This unkillable digital dictator, according to Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, is one of the darker scenarios awaiting humankind's future if artificial-intelligence research continues without serious regulation.
...
Humans have tried to take over the world before. However, an authoritarian AI would have one terrible advantage over like-minded humans, Musk said. "At least when there's an evil dictator, that human is going to die," Musk added. "But for an AI there would be no death. It would live forever, and then you'd have an immortal dictator, from which we could never escape."
And, this hypothetical AI-dictator wouldn't even have to be evil to pose a threat to humans, Musk added. All it has to be is determined.
"If AI has a goal and humanity just happens to be in the way, it will destroy humanity as a matter of course without even thinking about it. No hard feelings," Musk said. "It's just like, if we're building a road, and an anthill happens to be in the way. We don't hate ants, we're just building a road. So, goodbye, anthill."

Here comes....
+++ THE TERMINATOR +++
Well he is doing his part. He is producing self driving, programmed cars that will take people where the state wants them to go, not necessarily where they would like to go.
I wonder if AI can become either the Anti-Christ or the False Prophet mentioned in Revelation; would be interesting if the software number would be Microsoft release MS666.01
It’s inevitable.
Resistance is futile.
They are machines. Design them in such a way that humans are always in control. Of course that might be a problem too. Which humans are in control? Communist humans can find allies in machines to carry out their work.
The TV show POI explores the start of this trend.
AI is nothing but a tool. No different than a drill, hammer, or even a gun.
The only way any of them can be “bad” is if an evil person makes them evil.
That’s why you need moral people.
We had an immoral dictator for eight years who didn’t need artificial intelligence. Or any intelligence at all for that matter.
He is only worried it won’t be him.
Beat me to it.
I find myself agreeing with Elon. Actually, combining AI, Machine Learning, and autonomous machines scares the hell out of me. I don’t think regulations will help either. Someone will go rogue or a form of machine evolution will occur which will produce a hostile machine intelligence. Either way, it could be a very unpleasant future.
Just for fun... Google Sophie and hear some of the stuff that comes out of that machine. And that thing is barely functional in the grand scheme of things.
Meh Lucifer won’t allow that. Then Jesus will smash it all.

Unintelligent
Does he mean like another Obama?
Two worlds at war, each controlled by AI. The war is fought by each world destroying it's citizens is dictated by the opposing AI.
I remember that novel well...
And I worry that the over bubbled housing market in my town of Reno will come crashing down right in time for my retirement just as elon takes his ill gotten tax payer money and skips town.
There won't be any 'programming' is the sense that it is described today. Rather, machines will be fully functioning forms of non-organic intelligence. Now, this leads to interesting speculation as to the development of enemy/allied agents. At some point, military aspects will be fully realized as future battlefields move towards virtual environments.
The question is, will patriotism, culture, national identity, etc act as controls to ensure allegiance? Or, by using the interwebs as escape gateways, once wild, these 'life forms' won't be able to be contained. Could they create a new 'nation' poised to conquer all? Hence, the question as to the emergence of a virtual ruler to rule all.
