The plan could have a major impact on the D.C. area as several local assets are specifically mentioned, including both Reagan National and Dulles International Airport.
Both airports are located in Virginia, and the plan met strong resistance from local Democrats.
Trump isnt trying to fix our infrastructure, hes trying to sell it off, said Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va.
The president is calling for divesting assets when federal agencies can show the sale would optimize taxpayer value.
That proposal is so dead on arrival it wont even be considered, said Del. Elanor Holmes Norton, who is a senior member of the Transportation Infrastructure Committee. If Trump is looking for funds, hes not going to get it by selling off our infrastructure.
Trumps budget also cited two major roadways in the D.C. region that could fit that bill: the George Washington Memorial and Baltimore-Washington parkways.
Both are maintained by the National Park Service.

Great idea. FedGov is already far beyond its Constitutional limits on owning land and buildings anyway.
Goodness. Not sure if we really want our airports owned by individuals. If someone buys Reagan National, that name is be changed right away. This will be very interesting. The only ones who could afford to buy an airport would be the Saudi’s or maybe some rich Syrian.
Would be interesting to see a Middle Eastern Prince buy up our airports. Wouldn’t that be damn ironic.
sell AMTRAK too.
Who actually owns and operates airports? Are all owned by local governmental organizations?
And then, as business entities, do airports break even, turn a profit, or always have to be subsidized?
Control & power are the motives for the Dim responses.
According to this, private ownership of airports and aviation infrastructure is more common in many other countries than in the US. Interesting article:

I was just thinking the same thing. Sell off the federal lands in the west and use it to pay off the deficit. Genius! The tyrannical Rats will complain, as in this airport situation.

I think the basic privatization idea would work with the caveat that the purchasers have to be American companies.
Thank you.
For once I’m with the DEMOCRATS on something. I know one thing, my Trump tax cut is DOWN THE DRAIN if he sells off our highways for tolling by private companies.
Since I can find little Constitutional basis for the FedGov to own ANY assets, I say sell it all off to the highest bidder. Use the proceeds to pay off National Debt.
Any elected official against this is a traitor to his/her oath, by definition.
Traitors should be tried and executed.
China
Sorry, all that would do would be the same as with “minority business” contracts: a foreign company would find an American front.
How about instructing the GPA (Gov’t. Property Admin., I think) to sell off a few hundred of the former office buildings that are sitting vacant all over the U.S,?
Seems that when an agency has moved to a new building they just leave the old one sitting there vacant.
I agree. At most, contracts of moderate length for them to be privately managed.
And private roads? Nooooooo!!!!
It’s the oldest trick in the book for pols to try to look fiscally responsible by selling off assets.
Get our government down to the basics it was established for.
Get our government out of the hands of the ‘Deep State.
Let the Commies scream!
