Small arms manufacturer Browning has ended production of the Browning Hi Power semiautomatic handgun. The legendary pistol served in armies worldwide, from Nationalist China to the British Special Air Service and was one of the first high capacity pistols ever invented. An invention of prolific arms designer John Moses Browning, the Hi Power was the inventor’s last pistol design.

A GREAT gun—iffen you go for the 9mm, that is.

Great single action pistol. JMB never wanted the grip safety on the 1911. This is basically what he wanted the 1911 to be except for the caliber. Recent years it was available in 40s&w too. That would be the caliber I would get. Till then I’ll just have to play with my 1911a1 Remington Rand in .45acp. And all the other handguns I took on the canoe.

Didn’t the Canadians make a version in .45 ACP?

A pity, but the CZ75 is much better. Friend of mine bought one (HP) and brought it to the range. The magazine safety and its effect on the trigger pull (extreme grittiness) were very annoying.

Another friend bought a CZ. All three of us have CZ’s now.

A great gun but I have a strong preference for the late 60’s and early 70’s models. Very good bluing and wood grips coupled with typical Browning reliability and accuracy.

Also a big fan of the CZ-75;

The Hi-Power trigger is an easy fix. Never understood the reasoning behind the mag disconnect, I want it to drop on command.

Inglis of Canada made the hi power during the war in 9mm as FN in Belgium was captured by the Nazis and was making hi- powers for the Nazis.

Best I can figure was only 3 calibers. 9mm Luger, 30 Luger and in modern times 40 S&W.

CZ P-01 9mm compact with checkered wood CZ grips is just awesome. I highly recommend anything CZ makes.
