Tim Tebow will be quarterback of Orlando's inevitable new XFL team

ang up those baseball cleats, Timmy, and start getting into football shape.

I’m talking to you, Tim Tebow, because you will no doubt be the No. 1 draft pick and starting quarterback of the inevitable Orlando team when the XFL reinvents itself and begins play once again in 2020.

WWE founder and chairman Vince McMahon announced Thursday he is going to re-start the XFL — the league McMahon and NBC unveiled for one forgettable season back in 2001.

McMahon, obviously seeing an opening and wanting to take financial advantage of the NFL’s sagging popularity, struck all the right chords during his announcement on Thursday.

Unlike the NFL, McMahon said the new XFL would NOT give players a forum to take a personal stance on social issues while on the playing field (Translation: No kneeling during the national anthem), nor would XFL teams be allowed to sign any player with a criminal record (Translation: No SEC players allowed … bada-bing!).

Actually, at least one former SEC player will be welcomed into the league, and that, of course is Tebow.

"You want someone who does not have any criminality associated whatsoever with them,” McMahon said. “Even if you have a DUI you will not play in the XFL. So that will probably eliminate some (players). Not all of them. If Tim Tebow wants to play, he can very well play."

And what better place for Timmy Terrific to play than Orlando — smack, dab in the middle of a state where he is from and where he first became cultural icon. Although it’s not been announced that Orlando will get an XFL franchise, you know it’s going to happen. After all, we are the biggest market in America without an NFL team...

Interesting to know what cities will host.

St. Louis should be first in line.

"Orlando has become the Detroit of the southeast"

Does that mean it is on the rebound like Detwaa is? You'd not believe Downtown and it's sprouts, get a red-eye flight and come and see it for a weekend, you'll be surprised...

I’ll bet my San Diego would welcome a franchise, after the worst owner in football, Dean Spanos, moved the Chargers to L.A.

What about cities such as Cleveland? The fans were loyal, in spite of the hilariously bad play, until this year. The young players self-destructed with their focus being on insulting the fans, with the coach’s blessing. I’m wondering if a team in the new league could be successful in Columbus, Canton or Akron if it respected the fans. Most of the Browns base of fans that were driven away this year live in the suburbs, so why not put a team near a highway interchange that is easy access for where they live?

New teams? My guess: Orlando, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Nashville, Salt Lake City.

Nashville already has a team (Titans) and Las Vegas is getting one in 2 years (Raiders)

Way back in my Drum Corps days, we did the National Anthem and halftime at a Birmingham Stallions USFL game. Interesting thing: As we finished our halftime show and were coming off the field, the players were already back on the sideline.

They actually GOT OUT OF OUR WAY, which, if you've ever been a musician dealing with football players on a sideline, you know that NEVER happens. They were all saying stuff like, 'Geez, that's the loudest thing I've ever heard!'

So if this league can hire respectful players like that, I'm all for it.

Somewhat true. I absolutely think International Drive is the crown jewel of Orlando. The parks are nice too but International Drive is incredible with so much to do. The area around The Phillips Center is nice as well. And quite frankly the areas around Lake Nona are wonderful. To compare it to Detroit is hyperbole at best. Overall Orlando is one of the nicer cities in America with San Diego beating it and maybe Austin Texas.

Tim is currently 30 years old.

2 more years = 32.

I like Tebow, but his playing days are over or very limited.

Been through Orlando once, and I’m a native Floridiot.
It used to be the gem of Florida but a friend lives nearby and can attest, it’s a S@#$hole now. Sad.

In two years, when the XFL is ready to start play, Tebow will know whether or not he’ll be able to play baseball at the major league level.

In 2 years Tebow will be 32.

When a team looks at a player, they aren't just concerned for today or this year. They are thinking 2-3-5 years out. They are thinking trade value.

Tebow is a good name.
But he brings very little to the table from a business stand point.

So Orlando is like Augusta Georgia - a pristine facility surrounded by a run down neighborhood.

. Players representing cities they're housed in would go a long way too... sportsmanship rather than 'biggest goon wins' would be nice... Going back to the days when families showed up - fathers with sons, young couples... traditions built... I like it.

How old will Tebow be in 2020? He will be at least 5 years out of football by then. Not easy to come back.

I lived in Orlando the last time they had an XFL team, the Orlando Rage, so this is good to hear.

Tebow is doing just fine outside of football. And he’ll still have his brain cells in twenty years to boot. It would be silly for him to play football again.

...In 2 years Tebow will be 32...

He might be older, but he has not taken all the hits active players do. He could play for several years.

see it for a weekend, you'll be surprised...

My sister's family have Wings season tickets and they know the downtown area like the back of their hand. The love it down there.....

I went downtown with them for coney islands last October, my first time downtown in years, and I couldn't believe my eyes........

Upscale bars, restaurants, stores such as Nike, UnderArmor, clothing...you name it.

What they did to the riverfront is short of miraculous.

Detroit is making a comeback, starting downtown and spreading outwards. The smart people and investors have already bought up most of the immediate blighted properties and land around downtown's perimeter. They know what they're doing.........

If I was young, single, college educated and starting a career in S.E. Michigan, I'd live downtown and invest in a condo or loft since they're only going to go up in value. And the nightlife would be right up my alley.....LOL!

As a side note, a friend of mine who was a Jig and Fixture builder at my company's plant on the east side owns a unique bar on Griswald called Cafe D'Mongos Speakeasy
