Princess Eugenie Celebrates her Engagement to Ex-Barman by Revealing her VERY Modern [Trunc]

After Princess Eugenie's engagement news was revealed to the world by her thrilled parents, official portraits of the happy couple were released to mark the occasion - and offer that all-important first glimpse of the bride-to-be's ring.

The 27-year-old Princess' long-term boyfriend Jack Brooksbank, 31, popped the question in Nicaragua earlier this month with the unusual ring; a padparadscha sapphire surrounded by diamonds.

The sparkler bears a striking similarity to the one Eugenie's mother, Sarah Ferguson, was presented with by her ex-husband Prince Andrew, when they became engaged back in 1986 - although Fergie's ring was set with a pink Burma ruby.

Eugenie and Jack are now set to exchange vows in the autumn at Windsor Castle - in the same chapel that will play host to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's nuptials in May.

Which wedding looks to be the better bet for comic relief: Fergie at her daughter's wedding, or the whole Harry/Markle Hollywood-style show?

I would have to go with Fergie's comments and antics.

I don’t know but I think she is a lucky girl to have been born into royalty getting all the benefits but none of the responsibility that goes with it. Even Harry has more responsibility then Eugenie.

Agreed, as I’m not so sure the Prince Harry/Meghan Markle nuptials will be a Hollywood-style show at all. To the contrary, the church is taking it very seriously, and all the steps preceding it including Markle’s baptism and confirmation into the Church of England. Plus it will be held in St. George’s Chapel in Windsor - I think an even more reverent and contemplative location than Westminster or St. Paul’s.

According to the Archbishop: “Harry and Meghan serious about faith.” And in having a very traditional religious wedding.

The ring is pretty, and Eugenie seems to be a harmless young woman.

Sarah’s plastic surgery is looking worse and worse. She should have just gone with her natural face, like Queen Elizabeth, a nice-looking old lady.

Princess Eugenie works, though. Her sister seems like a lazy party girl.

“I would have to go with Fergie’s comments and antics.”

Fergie hasn't made the news in over a decade. She's been leading a low-key life for a long time.

I wonder if Prince Harry’s dad will be there?

And Prince Charles too?

I had to look up what a “padparadscha” sapphire was .....

Padparadscha sapphires are typically found in Sri Lanka and are one of the rarest colour of sapphire, being a beautiful and unique mix of pink and orange.

Transparent specimens of corundum, a crystalline form of aluminium oxide, are used as gems most commonly known as sapphires - with two exceptions. Red ones are referred to as rubies, while pink-orange varieties are padparadscha. All other are referred to as sapphires in the relevant colour.

She worked at an art gallery in New York for a couple of years and now I believe she’s at one in London.

I have a pink sapphire and yes, pads are more pinkish-orange.

We actually saw (not met) Fergie at a wedding some years ago. My cousin’s daughter was marrying her godson. 650 people for lunch on the side lawn! No, the money didn’t go down our line. Actually, I never recognized her. Husband did! I had never before understood the meaning of the term “beautiful people.” I’ve never known anyone who had plastic surgery and there, suddenly, was a tent full. Very strange.

They are already having to reign goony Fergie in over her daughter’s engagement. Fergie is so undignified for a person in her position and of her age.

Well, I have a soft spot for Fergie. Her mother abandoned her and her siblings when they were mere children to run off with her paramour. (Diana's mother did the same thing.) Many of the British aristocracy — not all, but many — were raised as if by wolves. That Fergie seems genuinely to love her daughters and to be involved in their lives makes her much better than her own mother. If her social media posts are “goofy”, well, in this age, they could be much worse than goofy.
