Two boys charged with destruction of half million bees at Sioux City honey business

Wild Hill Honey owners Justin and Tori Englehardt went to check on their 50 hives on the morning of Dec. 28 and found them all destroyed, resulting in more than $60,000 in damage to the business.

The police department said Wednesday two boys, ages 12 and 13, have been arrested in connection with the incident, which drew ire from people across the country and garnered national and international media coverage. Because they were charged as juveniles, the suspects cannot be identified under state privacy law.

Despite the crime taking place in a secluded area with no witnesses, police were able to track down the suspects after following a series of leads and tips from the public. Police said they don't anticipate any future arrests in connection with the case.

The two boys have been charged with three felonies, criminal mischief in the first degree, agricultural animal facilities offenses and burglary in the third degree, as well as an aggravated misdemeanor, possession of burglar's tools. The felonies would carry penalties of up to 10 years in prison and fines as much as $10,000. Criminal cases involving minors are typically adjudicated in juvenile court, however.

...

According to the state code, a person found guilty of violating the law can be taken to district court by the offended parties to seek recovery of damages in an amount that is three times actual and consequential damage, and also force the defendant to cover the victim’s court and attorney fees.

...

Wild Hill sells jars of pure, raw and creamed varieties of honey and other honey byproducts at Pierce Street Coffee Works, Sioux City Gifts, Palmer’s Olde Tyme Candy Shoppe, trade shows and other outlets around the area.

Throw them in a glass cage with killer bees and start tapping on the glass.

What kind of boys were they — "youths" or "teens"?

Why? Why do this?

They should be removed and never seen again.

That whole neighborhood very likely knows who the boys are and who their families are. The names are probably on Facebook. Maybe the face pics too.
One or both families may want to leave that community soon.
This crime is bad enough so that the public should be warned what these boys are capable of.

pour gasoline on them one at a time. Burn one of them. and see if the second dies of a heart attack.

“the suspects cannot be identified under state privacy laws”

This needs to be changed. Protecting these feral subhumans just gives them the right to commit crimes without consequences. Maybe if they were exposed to the public, other subhumans would think twice before becoming criminals.

Can we suspect that these little darlings have been in trouble before?

Fortunately the two kids weren’t seriously injured or killed. And yes, I mean that.

While gratuitous animal cruelty is unacceptable, I don’t get the mentality that desires like cruelty against the perps, or alleged perps in many cases. In this case, the issues concerns insects and property, but not animals.

Whatever the business insurance fails to cover, the families of the two idiots should cover. The felony charges are absurd.

NY Daily News (a leftist rag) would have headlined this “To Bee or Not to Bee”.

Or “Samantha Bee Loses Relatives to Arson Fire”.

I’m conflicted. What they did was horrible, but it is not the sort of mischief kids that age would normally get into. I mean, it’s not something they would think about doing unless they were motivated for some reason.

I can see maybe kicking down one beehive as a malicious prank, but this level of well-planned-out methodical destruction? Not hardly. Someone put those boys up to doing this. I don’t know why, and I obviously don’t know who, but there is an agenda behind this.

I’d bet money on it.

The business insurance should not be out a nickel. The parties responsible need to pony up. The victims’ insurance rates would go up, possibly canceled.
The charges are based on the severity of the crime, not the age of the criminal.
There was no sense in this crime. None. They knew what would happen. It wasn’t a maybe or an ooops. Maybe if they had been hurt, they would learn more than, I am a kid so I can get away with anything.
