SANFORD, Maine (AP) A Maine school district has fired a substitute teacher who was recorded arguing with a student about immigration.
Sanford School Department officials tell the Portland Press Herald the argument happened in an 11th grade classroom at the Sanford Regional Technical Center last week. The district fired the teacher following an investigation into the exchange.
In the video clip posted on Twitter , the student and teacher discuss a proposed wall along the U.S. border with Mexico. The substitute tells the student, Oh, youre getting kicked out of my country. She later says the country has belonged to her longer and references President Donald Trump.
Officials are not identifying the teacher and the student.
The exchange follows Trumps incendiary remarks about countries in Africa last week.

I can just imagine how this illegal snowflake alien was using his liberal version of illegal.
Which countries would that be? You mean the utopia of Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda? Or the ones where hemmorhagic fever originates?
Now if the teacher discussed having Trump executed the teacher would have been fine.
America was founded on the completely new and enlightened principle that the country belonged to US (US citizens) and that we were the sovereigns.
We The People should decide who gets to come here.
Fraudulently documented foreigners have NO right to just come here anytime they wish.
I’m surprised they didn’t deport the teacher.
They destroy classrooms and learning.
The article is just vague enough that I’m not sure who said what and what their respective positions were.
“fecal depository” > **** Hole countries (fixed)
The Blame in Maine Stays Plainly on the Dame.
A Substitute Teacher does not have the employment status to be fired.
They can be removed from the Sub List meaning you don’t get called again when another teacher is absent.
The author of the article however should be fired for not knowing the difference
I’m willing to bet this is FAKE NEWS. Teacher and student are made up
The exchange follows Trumps incendiary remarks about countries in Africa last week.
Sounds like a sh*thole school district.
This was considered newsworthy by the Associated Press?
Quick, make up a lesson plan “What happens to illegals in Mexico”! For that matter, even legal immigrants to Mexico don’t have a lot of rights.
Was the student an immigrant? An illegal immigrant? The linked story does not say. Was the teacher an American citizen? A native born citizen? Or an immigrant him/her self? The story doesn’t say, because the school board won’t identify either party. Was there any way the teacher’s remark could have been interpreted as a threat? What about what the student said during the “argument?”
Yet again, relevant facts are being kept from the public to prevent them from rationally judging the incident and the reaction of the school officials.
The teacher should sue.
Expressing conservative ideas is a fireable offense. University professors advocating the genocide of white people is acceptable speech.
Somebody should research the teacher. I bet she’s a plant.
If the Sub Teacher made these comments vis a vi to a student, and not online, then what she said was inappropriate.
In this day and age, you don’t make jokes about the student being deported, certainly not in front of his friends.
It’s like a teacher ‘joking’ about a particular student ‘probably’ being a terrorist. That kind of joke stings, because its easy to believe.
Some kids understand and can take a joke if they already know you, but most Subs don’t stay long enough to become that familiar with students.
