I figure I should know what thee Activity Tab feature does now that I am approaching my 20th year. Any help is appreciated

You are correct as far as I know. It used to be a way to look
at a listing of the threads and would show the total comments
thereon. Now total comments are shown on the “Latest Articles”

I think the number on your account are not complete. I looked at mine and the numbers are way low to reflect nearly twenty years. I suspect at some point old postings were lost during a crash.
