LITTLETON, CO - A Balsam Fir Christmas Tree grown by David and Jim Chapman of Silent Night Evergreens, located in Endeavor, WI, was awarded the 2017 Grand Champion at the National Christmas Tree Association’s (NCTA) 2017 National Christmas Tree Contest.

As growers of the Grand Champion tree, the Chapman’s have earned the honor of presenting the official 2017 White House Christmas Tree this season.

Since 1966, NCTA members have presented the official Christmas Tree for display in the White House Blue Room. Ed Hedlund of Hedlund Christmas Trees, in Elma, WA, was named Reserve Champion of the contest.

Traditionally, the Reserve Champion grower has provided a Christmas Tree for the residence of the Vice President. Because, the contest is held every other year, both the 2017 and 2018 champions are awarded. The 2018 Grand Champion winner is Larry Smith of Mountain Top Fraser Fir located in Newland, NC and the 2018 Reserve Champion is Russell and Beau Estes of Peak Farms, located in Jefferson, NC.

These winners will have the opportunity to present the 2018 White House and Vice President’s residence trees. The contest was held in Green Bay, WI. in conjunction with the Wisconsin Christmas Tree Producers Association meeting and attracted 21 contestants from across the country; each competing grower having previously won a state contest to qualify.

Trees can fall into five different species categories and are first scored by a panel of judges. Judges are experienced growers and former contest winners representing different geographic regions of the United States.

The top two winners in the species categories are then subjected to a popular vote by convention attendees by secret ballot to determine the Grand and Reserve Champions.

That’s a beautiful tree, but it needs to be thinned-out for decorations...

We do grow some gorgeous trees here in Wisconsin. I used to manage a Garden Center and we sold cut & potted Christmas Trees, wreaths, boughs, porch pots, roping, etc. starting the week of Thanksgiving.

All of my fresh and potted trees were from Wisconsin with some of the other stuff coming from Michigan. Such lovely materials to work with!

It really was a lot of fun, though I do NOT miss making custom bows for wreathes. We’d all joke that we had, ‘Bow Claw’ by the end of the season.

Thanks for highlighting Wisconsin. Y’all come! Bring your Tourist Dollars! Lots of fun to be had in our state. :)

The spoiled brat Obama daughters didn’t bother to get out of bed when the last White House tree was delivered, there was a morning delivery ceremony. Too lazy, no respect for White House traditions.

I agree on both counts.

I prefer the spindlier live trees, with lots of space between the branches for decorations.

Me too! They look sort of ‘Old-World’, and show off your ornaments better.

I hope Barron and also the grandkids are there to receive it; that would be a very welcome sight after the Obama ingrates.

And speaking of decorations, I can expect the the days of seeing communist tree ornaments is over....at least for a while.

There were some interesting stories about the Clintons’ tree, too.

I’m glad they got a tree from Wisconsin which voted for Trump. Too often the trees have come from Washington state here behind the blue wall.

My father used to get a little tipsy, and sit on the sofa ‘supervising’. We had to constantly change-out lights, move ornaments around, until it was all balanced to his liking.

He insisted that we put on the ‘icicles’ just a few at a time, a branch at a time - which we dutifully did until we got bored; and then everybody began riotously throwing handfulls at the tree. Good Times.

(The most beautiful Christmas tree I’ve seen was at my in-laws’ home, the first time I visited. They first put on the electric lights, and then took that flaky Ivory Snow baby detergent, and whipped it up with water until it was like whipped cream. They’d spread it on the branches to look like fallen snow, let it dry, and then put on the ornaments. The last thing to go on were copious amounts of silver icicles, dripping from every branch. Gorgeous!

You can’t seem to buy Ivory Snow anymore, but my mother-in-law discovered that you can grate Ivory Soap bars that have been well-dried beside the wood stove for a few weeks, and use those flakes the same way ;-)

It’s been long overdue. Our Governor, Scott Walker, (R, WI) has CRUSHED the Union’s Death-Grip on our sate - and just in time!

We are cooking along. Great economy, bringing in new businesses on a regular basis and unemployment is at 3.1% for our state.

He’s kickin’ it!

Of course, you won’t HEAR that in the Enemy Media, but it’s the TRUTH. :)

I saw MANY more signs for Trump than I did for Hillary during the election, while traveling around our state, and there were plenty out there AGAINST Hillary. No one likes her...and she took Wisconsin for granted - didn’t show up here ONCE to campaign.

Her loss. THANK G-D!!

Barron was there, in a SUIT coat, looking VERY dapper! That kid is going to be a heart breaker! Shaking hands with the tree growers, posing for photos. He’s as tall as Melania - even in her (easily) 4” high-heeled boots.

She, of course looked lovely and acted GRACIOUS. I just love having the Trump Family in MY White House!

Just now got to watch the video of it - ahhh, such a relief to see a classy family receive the tree! Not a pouty, sullen face to be seen, if you know what I mean, ha!

I watched it live this afternoon, and then I watched it again on YouTube.

Beautiful CHRISTMAS MUSIC from The Marine Corps Band ensemble, too! :)

So PROUD of my State, which provided the tree. So PROUD of my President and his classy family!

Yes! I have a good friend whose son is musically gifted - he has considered joining to be in that band. What a thrill and life experience that would be!
