Huckleberry Finn is the strongest statement against slavery and racism in the English language. Thanks to the dimwitted virtue signalling of the lumpenleft, it is well on its way to becoming samizdat.

The Fake Book

Back in the day in the Jazz School,
The music students all knew
That copying works of sheet music
Could land you in Federal Stew.

But the sheets were so darn expensive
And sometimes were full of surprises
Wrong keys, Superfluous flourishes,
And the sheets came in all different sizes!

So late at night in the basement
They labored and wrote out by hand
Just the melody, lyrics, and changes.
(A Musician will understand)

Then cranking away on the Mimeo
Enshrined in Purplish Ink
Came the creation known as the “Fake Book”
(You could get a nice buzz off the stink!)

The Fake Book got thicker and thicker,
As new Standards were written and made
The Publishing Houses and ASCAP
Saw that there was a fortune to be made!

So out came the “commercial” Fake Books,
All licensed, like the Law wants.
They were thick, inclusive and pricey,
And printed in “handwritten” Fonts.

The only thing they were lacking,
Was the Clandestine Mystique
And the sickening smell of the Mimeo
That makes my Old Fake Book Unique.

Otherwise, they have uses
And musicians have discovered that
Although DIS may be produced by “The Bizness”
It’s mostly the SAMIZDAT.

thinking about the Fake Book Controversy further...

The Music publishing industry was not printing the mountains of sheet music anymore that represented the composers of the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s. So most of the Jazz Standards in the Original Illegal Fake Books were not available.

The original Illegal fake Books always included the name of the composers at the top of the song, so they were giving credit to the songwriters, even though most of them had passed on.

The Publishers saw a gold mine in the making, and when they licensed and printed their own Legal Fake Books, the estates of these dead composers got royalties.

So the illegal fake books met a need at the time, and then stimulated the free market to manufacture and provide a product that has become a standard for the industry. I am willing to bet that music publishers make more from fake books than from individual sheet music copies.

But HERE’S the Punch Line...

By necessity, the Legal Fake Books had to simplify the chord changes to make the books palatable to the everyday musician. So they left off the chord extensions and substitutions that Jazz Musicians love.

So the pirates went to work again, this time with modern copiers, to produce a product that had the real difficult funky chords that Jazz Musicians love.

They called it:

“The REAL Book”.

And now the Big Publishers have one of those, too.

As the lunacy from the Left is bringing us towards samizdat, they also promote the culture of gimmezdat…

Excellent, thanks!

I am reminded of your recent commentary about the new special effects that look real so they end up too fake, not being like the ‘real’ special effects of days gone by.

Then Galaxy Quest came along to spoof the original cheesy fake with the real that was a real story about aliens believing the fake historical documents...

“Those poor people...”

Assange is Hillary’s nemesis-
He certainly keeps her pissed
With samizdat copies of emails
That she claims do not exist

He keeps her waiting on pins-
The dropping of another shoe
Is what Hillary is in fear of
And nothing that she can do

Assange no doubt has guards
And enough deadman switches-
No Ft. Marcy park trip for him
Provided by Clinton’s bitches...

Well, if the national state police are going to prohib copying and distributing the text they don’t want their slaves (er, citizens) to read, they will have to continue what they’re doing, right? All media under the ABCNNBCBS Statsi control.

But, to make more copies, you need a Harry Potter command. Maybe like “Make more of dem papers, sameaszat pile! “
