More than twenty years later, the candy company is releasing their fourth candy bar ever, called Hershey Gold.
Using what the company calls caramelized crème, this new Hersheys bar, which Food & Wine previewed back in September, isnt actually made with any chocolate. Instead, the creamy, caramel-color base is packed with peanuts and pretzels. The bar wont hit store shelves until December 1, but Food & Wine recently had the pleasure of tasting it ahead of time.

PRETZEL CANDY!!!! And NO CHOCOLATE!!!!
Been eating a lot of candy this week (and last week) at the office.
Can’t say I’d go for this new candy bar if it was in the candy jar.
The “whitey bar” - no chocolate, got crackas
While I was driving to work this week and a local syndicated host was discussing a “top favorites” candy list compiled by some firm, something like 5 of the top 10 were resse’s peanut butter products (full size, bite size/minis, pieces, some other type of filled pieces, etc.).
I recalled something homemade that used to be brought to school (I think called haystacks). May have been a peanut butter ball covered by a mound of chow mein noodles (the La Choy type) and then coated by something other than chocolate (may have been caramel). Had crunch, sugar, salt, etc.
They moved their plant to Mexico.
That could have been me when I discovered my mom’s bakers’ chocolate!
Judging by my taste, neither are the rest of their candy bars.
No doubt they are making it because it’s cheaper to make than something with real chocolate.
I don't think they make any candy in the USA anymore.
The sugar tax is too too high for candy makers.
I’ve found a great chocolate bar... at a good price. Dollar General has three kinds , my fav is the dark chocolate. Says on them “100% of the proceeds go to Dollar General Literacy Foundation.”
I tried one for kicks and grins thinking it’d be typical waxy sweet fare but it’s actually really good, so good I looked closer to see where it was made...Poland.
3 1/2 oz bar for a dollar.
They have a salted caramel one, too. And the usual milk chocolate.
anybody ever try a piece of cocoa butter when you were a kid?..and were horrified...
Yep. Who wants to eat that stuff?
My wife and I were chatting recently and this topic came up: When was the last time either of use remembered a new candy bar being released. I had no idea and wifey didn’t either. Glad to something exciting happening in candyland.
Yes they do. I know where there is a candy factory.
How are Hershey’s Cookie Layer Crunch bars not new?
