A new film about the fateful July 1969 car crash that killed Mary Jo Kopechne and ended Ted Kennedys presidential aspirations has an official release date, and it looks like film executives have Oscars in mind.
Chappaquiddick, which stars Jason Clarke as Kennedy and Kate Mara as Kopechne, will open in select theaters on Dec. 8, according to the Hollywood Reporter, qualifying it for the 2017 slate of film awards.
The film debuted at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month, before Entertainment Studios purchased it for $4 million. THR also reported that the studio has committed $16 million to prints and advertising (P&A), further fueling suspicions that Chappaquiddick is being primed as an awards season candidate.
Early reviews suggest that the film is largely unsympathetic to Kennedy, with one reviewer writing that Chappaquiddick turns a critical eye towards the Kennedy mystique, showing how the family closed ranks around one of their own at a moment that could and arguably should have cost him not only his career, but his freedom.

They should have entitled it, “Sink or Swim”.
Could have also been titled: I will cross that bridge when I come to it.
Leaked synopsis of the film . . . “It was all her fault.”
The moment Teddy boy put his arms around Obama is the day I knew there was something serious wrong with that Obama fellow.
I can’t think of a more depressing subject for a movie! If it’s tough on Kennedy, though, I’d be happy. Won’t pay money for it, though.
Poor Teddy. What a dreadful experience for the Golden Boy!
it’ll flop. nobody cares about this anymore
Theme song by America:
“Don’t Cross The River”
There’s a little girl out lyin’ on her own
She’s got a broken heart
She’s not the kind to take you down for long
She knows and plays it smart
(Ah-) And if she’s comin’ she’s showed no mark
She’s heard no whistle blowin’ from the dark
She feels like leavin’ and she don’t know why
Without no bridges she’s trapped, so I sigh
Don’t cross the river if you can’t swim the tide
Don’t try denyin’ livin’ on the other side
All your life
You were on your own
If you want you can ride my train
And soon forget the reason that you’re leaving
You’ll lose yourself and then sometime
Maybe even save yourself some grievin’
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Don’t cross the river if you can’t swim the tide
Don’t try denyin’ livin’ on the other side
Don’t cross the river if you can’t swim the tide
Don’t try denyin’ livin’ on the other side
Don’t cross the river if you can’t swim the tide
Don’t cross the river if you can’t swim the tide
Don’t cross the river if you can’t swim the tide ...
Poor Mary Jo.
So, a movie about W’s good friend “Chappy”. That nickname shows W knew Kennedy was guilty. And Kennedy laughed it off.
Let me guess... In this one he saves her from drowning instead of ignoring her screams for help.
“Ted Kennedy at Chappaquiddick: A Profile in Courage”
Wow. I’m amazed this got made.
Should have been made circa 1972 though.
Let me guess the Hollywood ending:
A faithful and noble Teddy, taking this poor drunken wretch of a woman to her home, is distracted, while the sexual predator in her badgers him for sex immediately. Teddy escapes the vehicle, and with typical Kennedy-esq superhuman strength, lifts the car out of water. He wraps Mary Jo in a blanket and carries her, in his arms, the 10 miles to her house. He is then attacked by the vicious conservative press.
“... and it looks like film executives have Oscars in mind. “
If this thing so much as gets one of his hairs out of place, it wont even see a projector.
The father of No Child Left Behind had no problem leaving a drowning girl behind.
The moment Teddy boy put his arms around Obama is the day I knew there was something serious wrong with that Obama fellow.
If the Swimmer put his seal of approval on something, you just knew that America was getting the short end of the stick.
Finally, a documentary that doesn’t look at the Kennedy family through rose colored glasses? One of the first times I listened to Rush the subject was who should be the first woman honored with a national holiday. He suggested Mary Jo Kopechne, she gave her life to insure Teddy boy would be unelectable as president.
Pfffffft!
Teddy see Trump stealing cheese from a black transgender non-binary midget, and heroically swerves to run him off, when the car is gabbed by Trump, and flung into the water. Ted is then pulled up from the car, and told by Trump to run home because he is a white male, and he could not dare see him perish, but the “whore Mary-Jo must die!!!!!!”.
