Weird quote in the Morning Call article you linked,"Kennedy and another woman swam to safety after the incident".

No other source lists "another woman". That's an odd detail to get wrong after so many years.

Kennedy's police statement says,"There was one passenger with me, one Miss Mary [Kopechne], a former secretary of my brother Sen. Robert Kennedy".

I can’t think of a more depressing subject for a movie! If it’s tough on Kennedy, though, I’d be happy. Won’t pay money for it, though.

As with all these “political cover-ups” the first responders get the facts and then their bosses start the cover-up after they have been “contacted” by the politicians.

So, it is very difficult to get the facts without interviewing the first responders (privately).

That is how folks here figured out the official lies in the Vince Foster case, btw.

Party at house on Chappy, Ted wants to screw MJ on Beach, drives loaded and too fast loses control on small wooden bridge and skids into water. Too drunk to care about saving her, spends next 12 hours trying to hide what he did from everyone.

That's not where the bridge was. Its a few miles down the Road after you take the ferry. It was across Dykes pond and crossed over to the beach still popular. As I recall it had an air pump so people could let air out and drive the beach, then refill at bridge.

Thanks for that info - had a "Chappaquiddick" sign where the gap was and I assumed it was the infamous bridge made so by the cowardly dastard.

Hate to spend much time in "liberal land" but am considering another late season jaunt - it was relaxing and a early Winter storm made the ferry ride back to the mainland interesting - it almost didn't go and we were plowing into waves that crashed into the front window area by the snack bar area. Best part of the trip for me but the wife wasn't thrilled....

Actually MV is quite nice if you avoid the libs. Chappy Island on the other hand has nothing. They rented a house there and I’m sure it was “remote”. I believe it wasn’t far from the road that he would turn right on to get to the beach. Bottom line, he was drunk as a skunk - should have been a layup for manslaughter.

I am currently about 1/2 way through reading “Senatorial Privilege.”

One of the things that has struck me is that in most events, you have at least one person that is fighting to do the right thing no matter how much the odds are against them.

I have yet to see that person mentioned in this book.
