A dark cloud hovers over the professional wrestling world today, as one of the most beloved characters in history has checked out way too soon. But the memories of Bobby "The Brain" Heenan still live on, proving that even the darkest clouds have silver linings.
Commentator Jim Ross broke the news on his Twitter account today.
"Nobody ever did it better than the Weasel," wrote Ross.

This really sucks. He was great.
No! I loved Bobby the Brain Heenan! I don’t care if he was evil!
I know. This is the worst since Roddy Piper passed away. :(
He lived near me when I was a teenager, back in the eighties. He was a really nice dude.
Loved the “Weasel”. The Crusher gave him that name.
He was a brainiac.
The poor guy suffered for so long. I hope he’s in a better place now. Thanks for the years and years or entertainment, Bobby!
Diagnosed with throat cancer in 2002. Died at 72 after years of health problems.
I honor of Bobby the Brain I think Ill give my wife the brain freeze tonight. RIP Bobby.
I absolutely enjoyed the old WWF.
He was a regular on the Indy wrestling scene along with Dick The Bruiser, the Valiant Brothers, Mitsu Arakawa and my all-time favorite, Yukon Moose Cholak. This was back when it was all entertainment and fun. A Friday night at the Tindall Armory was a working-class morality play for the guys from the Chevy stamping plant and the Chrysler foundry.
I remember hating him something fierce.
He was a great Heal (bad guy). In Northern Minn where I grew up he managed the Anderson brothers. They were always pulling out the weapons and pulling dirty tricks. Without him wrestling would not have been what it was back in the day.
My hero was the Crusher,, and I remember Heenan busting a chair over his head to that the Andersons could defeat the Crusher and Red Bastien for the WWE Tag Teem championship when I was a teen in the late 60’s.
He was a pencil neck geek!
Another piece of my childhood. He was no Freddie Blassie, but he was a great entertainer.
Couldn’t have said it better...
RIP.
One of the best ever!
RIP.
In a typical exchange between Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan, Schiavone was talking up the virtues of Ron Simmons during a match involving Simmons:
SCHIAVONE: "Outside of the ring, Ron Simmons devotes a lot of time to community service."
HEENAN: "How many hours does he have to do?"
