Members of the Congressional Black Caucus are reviving calls to remove Confederate statues from the Capitol following the violence at a white nationalist rally in Virginia.
The Unite the Right rally of white supremacists and subsequent clash with counter-protesters began as a protest against the Charlottesville city councils decision to remove a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee.

While these folks are busy trying to erase history and condemn anyone who was involved in slavery......
Why don’t they condemn muslims since they were the sellers of slaves for hundreds of years?
Honored is not the right word. The statues mark a time in history.
F them. OI;m sick of this crap. I bet not one of them know that there were black slave owners, or that it was a black man who got slavery legal in VA, or that it was never the battle flag which flew on slaves ships , but the flag they pretend to face when the national anthem plays.
What’s next remove all statues of Grant , Lincoln as they went westward and native Americans got raped, killed, etc?
Meanwhile statues like Lenin sit in Washington, and not a peep from the left.
“Destroying the union” is double speak. If the CSA had gained independence would their not have still been a USA? Of course there would have.
Tear down those pyramids, they were built by slaves! Remove that image of the pyramid from our paper currency while you’re at it as well. Then, let’s purge all those rascists from history, like Roosevelt, Johnson, Wilson and Kennedy. Let’s party like it’s 1984!
Honored is the correct word. Does BLM pay you to troll here?
There are statues of FDR, Martin Luther King, Jr., Margaret Sanger and probably a few more of people who were not Confederate. This war they are starting could get really out of hand if they keep it up. Not to be misunderstood, I would not touch ANY statue unless it was evil.
“White supremist toothless wonders...We all believe in equity...I think [the statue] was a bargaining tool...all in all, negotiation is one thing, we got the equity pkg passed 5 to 0 and we got the votes to move the statue 3 to 2, so at the end of the day we got both... Within that equity package is nearly $4M worth of initiatives for communities that were marginalized. You look at $2.5M put in our capital improvement plan to redo public housing sites, $950K to the African-American heritage center, $20K for anybody who lives in our public housing sites to be able to get free GED training and take free GED classes..We established a $15K grant to create a new class to talk about equity studies...within our schools..We're not going to let some white supremist clowns come down and knock us up..[Q] On the equity, when you tried to push that through, did people try to leverage that to get you to stop trying to getting the statue removed? [A] I think it was a bargaining tool...I think some people, sometimes politics is about negotiation. Right? But, all in all, negotiation is one thing. We got the equity package passed 5 to 0 and we got the votes move the statue removed 3-2. So at the end of the day we got both....We got economic equity issues to talk about...So let's share some of these resources, let's divvy it all up...”

Charlottesville VA Backs “Reparations” Fund for Black Residents & Votes to Sell Robert E. Lee Statue - August 15, 2017
“...$950K to our African-American heritage center, $250K to build on to one of the parks in the local African-American community, $2.5M to public housing redevelopment, $50K annually for anyone who lives in public housing to get free GED training, another $50K to anyone who lives 80% below the AMI, which is the Annual Median Income, as well as public housing to have scholarships of sorts to go to our local community college...All in all there is about $4Million basically from in funding...All of this is about equity, we need equity and not equality...Equity is giving everyone what they need in order to have the same playing field. Equality is just giving everyone the same thing. I don't want equality, I want us to have equity and I'm going to push for equity in every space..... [Q] Well Vice Mayor Bellamy, the interesting thing tho, is you were offered, the majority agreed to the equity package as an attempted compromise to convince you to hold off on the removal of the Robert E. Lee statue. Can you talk about that effort on their part? [A]...Yeah, so I think my colleagues they wanted to see how we could find a compromise of sorts and move forward with the equity package. And I think, I personally believe all of my colleagues on the counsel, they firmly also believe in equity, and we may have different ways to go about it so we thought it was a great idea....It was a 2 to 2 vote...Mr. Bob Fenwich decided to come on board and vote to remove the statue. So essentially, we had the votes to move the statue as well as getting the equity package.”

I think that statues and artwork depicting enslaved people should be taken down also! And structures like the White House that were built, in part, with slave labor should come down!
They did gain independence. They had their borders, currency, military and working government. Their US house and senators had vacated the union and returned to their respective homes. The CSA main fault was firing on ft Sumter.
Sanger was pure evil.
Howie Carr, yesterday: "If successful in removing all these statues, Democrats won't have any statues to their heroes remaining".
:)
It should be noted that most of the members of the Congressional Black Caucus are Democrats
It should be noted that slavery in the U.S. had been implemented , and enforced, by Democrats from the South.
The destruction of Confederate statues is an attempt to 'white wash' history and create a false narrative of history.
To the North, the Civil War was an attempt to stop State succession; and action by the North, although late in the War, was to free the slaves.
To the South, the Civil War was an attempt to enforce 'States rights', and is called in the South, "the War of Northern Aggression".
Tearing down statues is nothing more than a re-write of history based on some peoples hurt "feelings" and reminders.
All the Statues should remain as a reminder of how the USA has progressed into civility, justice, equality, and law.
The Democratic Congressional Black Caucus is merely trying to deny its historical past by statue destruction because it hurts their "feelings"
"Snowflakes" all !
Those who forget History are doomed to repeat it. I see all of this turmoil as a direct result of our educational system’s failure to educate the next generation. Real slavery is on the way and it will be based upon class structure, earnings potential and intelligence.
Having statues of men like Davis and Stephens were no doubt an intentional middle finger from Mississippi and Georgia. But they’re there so they should be left there.
Well let's put it this way. Would you expect to see statues of George Washington, John Adams, or Thomas Jefferson in Westminster Abby had the colonies lost their rebellion?
Not in Statuary Hall, which is what they are talking about.
Black Caucus?
Sounds racist to me...
If they get their way, our Nation's Capital will be changed to "Obama, DC".
