Winter is coming for the North.
Last year, three states in the Northeast New Jersey, New York and Connecticut landed in the top five places people were moving out of fastest, according to 2017 data from United Van Lines. (The other two states on the list were Illinois and Kansas.) And data from Pew Charitable Trusts found that while people are all about moving to the South (their population grew by nearly 1.4 million people from 2014 to 2015) and the West (866,000 more people), the population growth in the Northeast is sluggish.

They’re leaving because of the expense. NJ taxes have got us finally looking to get out.
When your tax base moves away(or isnt reproduced because of plunging birth rates) two things happen; a higher more sustained pressure on the welfare state and more taxes on those who stay.
Husband and I left last year. Poor weather, high taxes, and a crappy economy all wrapped up in one was enough for us. Since then, my job is 1000x better and my husband’s business is doing well.
I understand some folks like the seasons, but I can’t take that level of cold anymore. Not a fan of sweltering heat either.
Liberals always move to red states. They cannot stand the thought that people might be happy the way things are now.
There is no GOP in NYC. It’s pathetic. Even when I first got my apt. back in the mid-70s, there was a Republican Party. Mostly liberal-Lindsay Repubs...
LOL!
The exodus from the NE has been going on for decades.
Likewise I’m a transplanted Yankee. Left CNY for GA. Wife wants to go back, I’m refusing to - for starters, the governor explicitly stated “we don’t want your kind here”. The 4 seasons is great, I like the Man Vs Snow, lots of goodness there - spoiled by deranged taxes, oppressive laws, and needless social warfare. They don’t call it “The Empire State” for nothin’.
I left NYS in 1980..best thing I ever did.
It has been downhill for 40 years...
The South and west uphill for forty years
Only people left from my high school class teachers..cops and firefighters...they have taken there pensions and moved out ..

You know those lights were bright on Broadway
That was so many years ago
Before we all lived here in Florida
Before the Mafia took over Mexico
There are not many who remember
They say a handful still survive
To tell the world about
The way the lights went out
And keep the memory alive

You can get a lot of meat from those jackrabbits, but it’s kind of stringy.
I left Michigan for Texas in 1975. Yes, best thing I ever did. Plus, there is air conditioning in the south. Yeah!
I think they taste like stringy chicken, but that’s just me.
Top 10 reasons:
1. Taxes
2-10: See No.1
Reminds me of the church-going folks who would vote a town dry, and then move.
