“Apparently, it is debatable. I assumed, by his attendance on inauguration day and Melania being Episcopal and now Barron attendance of this school.”

I suspect the President considers himself christian without real distinction. He grew up Presbyterian, but his first marriage was at Marble Collegiate Church which is Dutch Reform and at an Episcopal Church in West Palm Beach that was more a matter of a stately church nearby to Mar a Lago. His attendance at St John’s on inauguration day is a presidential tradition going back 100 years.

"The school focuses on diversity, according to its website. “We value and respect all differences, including but not limited to age, ability, ethnicity, family structure, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status," it says. Less than half of the student population is white."

The reality of it is this is a mantra of all high end schools, don't even get me started on how I know.

As much as FR would like it we will not see this: The school is run by Nuns with Aluminum Rulers, Retired Marine DI's, and our culture norms and dress code are straight out of Leave it to Beaver.

Although if a school started up with that business model, we might be pleasantly surprised at it's success....

And feeding the homeless is a very nice activity - especially for children who are sort of removed from all the harsh realities of life.

My (now ex-wife as of yesterday ....) used to say I live in a bubble. I go to work, I come home, I take care of my family. I go to work, I come home, I take care of my family. (Lather, rinse repeat.) As a result I did not see all the hard things other people go through.

That changed one day about five years ago now at Christmas time when I went to a local food pantry to make a cash donation for them to buy more food for those in need.

I was shocked at what I saw. People who looked just like me and my family going in to get food. Some had to fill out forms, others were already "registered" to receive food and others still were filling bags of staple items to give to those in need.

As I entered the building it was packed. I asked to see someone and was instructed to take a number. So I did. And I sat there and watched. And watched, and watched some more.

No one was laughing or joking, it was a sobering experience. Those receiving food looked humbled, I'd guess humiliated by the experience. I know I would be.

Eventually my number was called and I approached one of the women assisting other people. She asked for my name so I gave it to her. She looked on her list and not finding my name tried handing me some papers to fill out.

I told her she didn't understand, I'd waited almost an hour just to make a donation and proceeded to hand her a check. She looked at it, had this wonderfully surprised look on her face and thanked me profusely.

I walked out of there, got into my car and lost it. I think it was the moment in my life when I truly understood what the word "compassion" meant. I'm grateful for that experience.

So when I see others post vitriol about things like this I tend to wonder: are they just mean? Or do they live in a bubble like I used to and just need to get out of it and see what's going on outside their own world and how people who just so happen to look just like them are really suffering out there?

Funny you should say that, I’ve been thinking the same thing.

That is a wonderful if sobering story. I do contribute to food banks on occasion although where I live now (sort of an upper middle class enclave) there are none. Classy, not!

If you have ever walked around the food section of a Dollar Tree or Dollar Store, it is sobering as well. There but for the grace of God...

$38k is much less than what they are paying now for Barron

the social justice stuff is fairly SOP window dressing these days

my only thought is this school is way out in the ‘burbs. It’s a rather long commute. I’d think Georgetown Prep would be much closer and more akin to Trumps culture.

My grandsons go to a very pricey private school in California. As freshman each student is given a horse which becomes their responsibility for the year. They have to be in the stables at 6:30 AM,every day, to muck the stall, groom the horse and then ride. The point is to teach them to take care of something bigger than themselves.
The headmaster of the school had an assembly after Trump won and pretty much told the students who were upset to “straighten up buttercup” because life doesn’t always go the way we want it. To say my daughter and son-in-law are very happy with this school would be an understatement.

Ditto about Presbyterian.

Henry Jefferson (George’s brother): “There you go. They already proved he (Jesus) was an Ethiopian.”

Archie Bunker: “Hey, the Ethiopians say he was an Ethiopian...the Presbyterians says he was a Presbyterian...
but what he never was, was black!”—All in the Family

Agree with you 100%. Some of the Freepers in this thread are embarrassing themselves. They sound like a gaggle of cackling old maids with nothing better to do than to gossip among themselves about what school the neighbors down the street are sending their child to.

This looks like a very decent school for Barron and I'm sure the Trumps made the best choice out of the ones available to them. I would have loved to have gone to a school like this as a child. I don't understand the snark about the soup kitchen visits either. Since when is giving children some exposure to those not as fortunate as they and some community service a "liberal" thing? When my wife went through Catholic school, she too did things like that, for instance she was a "candy striper" (hospital volunteer).

Finally, I support Melania's choice to keep Barron in NYC to finish out the current school year. When I relocated for my job, I did the same thing. It was nearly six months before my wife was able to follow me to my new location. For us, it was the right thing to do. People don't realize how disruptive it can be pulling kids out a school midway through a school year and planting them into a completely different and strange environment.

The school is quite expensive. For Barron's education up to high school, the price tag is $38,590 a year.

About $2,000 less than Sidwell Friends.

I agree 1000% with your very excellent post. How many men working in corporate life move and leave their families behind for several months? Happens ALL THE TIME. And now poor Melania will be in the fishbowl. As someone who has lived in NYC for going on 40 years, apartment living (especially on the 22nd floor) can be a blessed escape from protesters, paparazzi and the like. She's going to miss that now, poor lady. But she'll be a beautiful, elegant, traditional first lady and for that I thank God!

I just got a private email suggesting that Barron is being sent to this school because he is autistic or special needs. Why these people all come to me privately is something I’ve never understood and of course, he got an earful in return.

Who cares. It is their money. They could buy the school many times over, if they wanted to do so. Not news.

It IS news when President Trump sends his kids to expensive private schools.

Not news when Democrats do it.

I doubt there was a single article ever published about the high cost of Sidwell Friends.

He seems like an intelligent and sensitive boy. This is a good choice, especially given the need for security. I hope that he does well there!

I totally agree. Outrageous amount of money we the taxpayers are spending for them to continue to live in NY. I really feel Melania needed to be at WH as the First Lady. Then we have the week-end expenses when President and First Lady fly to Florida.
