Trump Family Chooses Barron's New School: Soup's On

POTOMAC, MD — The Trump family has selected the new school for Barron Trump, according to recent reports. The 11-year-old will attend St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, about 15 miles from the White House.

St. Andrew's opened in 1978 with 40 students, grades seven to nine, in the basement of Pilgrim Lutheran Church on Massachusetts Avenue. Today, it has a total enrollment of 580 students in preschool through grade 12. The school operates on 12-week trimesters.

The school focuses on diversity, according to its website. “We value and respect all differences, including but not limited to age, ability, ethnicity, family structure, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status," it says. Less than half of the student population is white.

The Daily Caller reported that if Barron completes middle school at St. Andrew's, he will be required to participate in "service learning activities" in the eighth grade. These activities include a two-day field trip to a soup kitchen in Washington in which students make, serve and eat a meal with the homeless and listen to their life stories.

The school is quite expensive. For Barron's education up to high school, the price tag is $38,590 a year. When he begins high school, if he remains at St. Andrew's, the Trumps will pay the school $40,650 annually.

The St. Andrew's website reports that the student-to-teacher ratio is seven to one, and that class sizes range from 11 to 15 students. One-hundred percent of its graduates go on to attend college.

The Daily Caller reported the student body consists of 16 percent Episcopalians, 18 percent Roman Catholics, 10 percent Jews and 1 percent Muslims. Twenty-three percent of students are of other Protestant denominations, and 21 percent of students had either no religion or did not declare.

The St. Andrew's mascot is the Rampant Lion and its motto is Auctus Mentis Spiritusque, or the Increase of Mind and Spirit.

Notable alumni of the school are Pierre Omidyar, the founder of eBay; Joe Jacobi, the 1992 Olympic gold medalist in whitewater canoeing; and Whitney Cummings, an actress and comedian.

Another article on this subject said Sidwell Friends, where the Obama children and I believe Chelsea Clinton attended was deemed not "Republican friendly" by the Trumps. $38,000 a year to a billionaire is like a nickel to you and I.

This makes me wonder just how smart the President really is. The school seems oriented toward social justus bull crap.

$38k:Trump::$.05:T-Bird45 may be the appropriate statement of an analogy yet I still wouldn’t inflict that school’s ration of loopy leftism on my child for a minute. This choice has Melania written all over it.

In comparison to Sidwell Friends and the others? See, it's all relative. Barron isn't going to public school and homeschooling might not be enough for him. There are only X number of good private schools within a reasonable driving distance. They must think that this is the best of the lot.

And since when are conservatives against feeding the homeless and talking with them? There but for the grace of God go I.

You could be on to something. Mr. Obama hardly ever pays for anything, people have ushered him through life and paved the way for him.

Definitely has a “progressive” slant in some of the descriptions I see on the web. “Diversity” and “social justice” seem more emphasized than excellence and achievement. Far from a conservative institution, I would guess..... though it may be hard to find any slightly traditional schools around DC, I don’t know.

An Episcopal school with female minister chaplains, the school is definitely on the “progressive” wing of the Episcopal churches:

Chaplains: The Rev. Patty Alexander and the Rev. Sally Slater

Well, it is an Episcopal school and he is Episcopal...just a rather old school Episcopal.

$38,000 a year to a billionaire is like a nickel to you and I.

For an elementary/middle school, it's a bit pricey, even for that particular area (e.g., going rate for Catholic elementary schools in NW DC or the Potomac/Bethesda area is around $10K-$12K per year).

For a high school, it is on the high end of reasonable for that area (e.g., St Albans: $62K, Landon: $40K, Georgetown Day: $38K, Georgetown Prep: $38K, Holy Child: $31K, Visitation: $28K, St Anselms: $27K, The Heights: $26K, Holy Cross: $22K, Gonzaga: $21K)

Nothing wrong with that whatsoever. Here in FR we’ve often decried the fact kids in this country have no sense of service; at least they’re getting exposure to it there.

President Trump is a social progressive as are most of the New York elite. In fact he is a progressive on many other issues. Look at the people he surrounds himself with. Look at his healthcare plan. Look at the taxpayer funded daycare programs his daughter is championing.

However, no doubt many of the leftists private schools in Washington would have refused Barron in order to score points with the media. Imagine if Trump had attempted to enroll Barron in Sidwell Friends and Barron had been rejected. The news cycle would have run with the story for days, despite the media screaming the children are off limits when Democrats are in power.

I suspect this school is today under tremendous pressure from some parents and benefactors to rescind its acceptance of Barron. Inside the progressive beltway there are likley few parents, teachers and administrators who are not loyal Democrats and far left in their politics. The left would like nothing better than to embarrass Trump in this way. In addition to tuition payments Trump is likely also quietly giving the school a huge gift in order to prevent an embarrassing rejection.

Stay tuned. This story is likely just beginning.

Apparently, it is debatable. I assumed, by his attendance on inauguration day and Melania being Episcopal and now Barron attendance of this school.

Melania should have moved herself and Barron to the White House as soon as Donald was elected- school or no school.
Staying behind in NY not only cost the taxpayers tremendous expense for security but causes the Libs to start ugly rumors.

Uhhh...no. The family makes the decision, not the audience.

Melania made the decision, and it was the wrong one.
She should have gotten her beautiful self and Barron to the WH on day one.

She should have been there from the start to support her husband- not Ivanka.

The goal of education should be good citizens worthy of self-government. "Diversity," as taught by the progs is deadly.

On Republican Education.
