At 87 years old, famed astronaut Buzz Aldrin is still breaking barriers and having a damn good time doing it. The USAF Thunderbirds invited the icon for a ride in their F-16D while they starred in the Melbourne Air & Space Show over the weekend. Aldrin now holds the record of being the oldest person to ever fly with the USAF Flight Demonstration Team.
Melbourne is located south of Cape Canaveralwhere Buzz blasted off to the moon in a Saturn V rocket in 1969 as part of the pioneering Apollo 11 crew. Just a few years earlier he rocketed into orbit as part of Gemini 12 from a launchpad nearby. But before being one of the first humans to execute a spacewalkand a long one at thator the second human to step on the moon, Buzz was a USAF fighter pilot, flying 66 missions in F-86 Sabres over Korea. He also bagged a couple of MiG-15s in the process.

Godspeed Buzz Aldrin.
I live a few miles from Nellis Air Force Base I can see the Thunderbirds practice from my back yard while I sit by the pool drinking beer ;)
Didn’t Buzz punch out some ahole reporter who was harassing him about Apollo moon conspiracy theories ?
I got to meet Gen. Robert L. Scot at a historical meeting in South Georgia back around 1995. He had flown an F-15 on his 85th birthday. It required getting permission from the Secretary of the Air Force.
He didn’t say but I suspect it was a two seater.
Yes he did!
That video is filed under “Great Moments in America”.
Aldrin is a member of a very exclusive club.
My favorite astronaut.
Fun.Saw his pics. You can friend him on twitter.
Bfl
LOL!
That NEVER fails to bring a smile and a chuckle to my face. Did Mr. Aldrin have to take care of this guy more than once? Or maybe there is different footage of the same incident.
My dad was about the same age, and was able to find this clip or another like it of him punching this guy, and show it to him dad was very proud I could tell. He thought it was great. They were a scrappy bunch, the guys who came up in the 30s and 40s. Trust Me.
Him. I like him.
The guy asked Buzz to swear on the Holy Bible that he walked on the moon. Buzz wouldn’t do it. Then punched the guy.
Can’t remember the guys name. But there are videos of him asking every single astronaut that walked on the moon to swear on the Holy Bible. I think it was only one that would swear to it. It’s all on camera, you can search it on youtube. Pretty interesting.
He also interviewed one of them and they couldn’t answer simple questions about their moon mission when presented with video of their apollo missions. “I don’t remember, I was just a passenger, the big wigs were the ones in charge, I can’t remember.” Also pretty interesting.
You don’t remember specifics from being one of the few men to go to the moon? Yea right.
The guy was pretty aggressive about asking them.
Ping.
The guy’s name is Bart Sibrel. He tried to harass John Young and Young threatened to take his head off. Sibrel is a major PITA.
Well Neil I think gave him an interview and he sounded like he had no clue about his Apollo mission , couldn’t even answer questions while “Bart” was showing him the video.
I find it odd that they all refuse to swear on the Bible though. What’s the problem if they really walked on the moon? So if they were in a court they wouldn’t swear the oath to tell the truth?
It’s interesting to say the least.
The guy was really aggressive and it was borderline harassment. But I think they could have all dealt with him a little more tactfully. Instead of punching him, don’t you?
Enough of that crazy nonsense. We can now image the equipment they left on the Moon and their footprints, too.
