For the third year in a row, the Earth has set a record for warmth, according to three analyses just released from three government agencies.
The planet's mean surface temperature in 2016 was 0.99 degrees Celsius above the late 20th-century average, topping the previous record set in 2015 of 0.87 degrees above average, according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

Also, air is a three dimensional thing; and there are such factors as “heat content” (warm moist air bespeaks more heat than warm dry air). This is legerdemain of the first order.

A little Indian summer, climatically speaking, and we have folks swearing that the earth is going to positively roast. The older concerns that we were on the brink of an ice age still ring more realistic.
Right. The scope of the mean-temperature problem is enormous.
I’ll believe it if these charlatans can accurately measure the temperature, in 3D, at EVERY cubic meter voxel, extending from the bottom of the ocean to the outer atmosphere, every 10 seconds, continuously, for one whole year, over the whole earth.
They cannot possibly do this. And if they can’t, then I tune these frauds out.

Well they are deluding enough other people to make it worth talking about it publicly.
At the MOST, the very MOST, they’re telling us that it’s getting hotter right on the ground. What’s happening elsewhere? We don’t even hear.

Big deal. I predicted this a year ago. I now predict NOAA will claim this year the hottest on record. They always manipulate the data to make this claim.
Oh! And one good reason for getting hotter right on the ground is that we’ve replaced more-polluting fossil fuel technologies with less-polluting fossil fuel technologies. The smogs and soot that were known in Victorian era London, for example, are now so yesteryear. China is an exception, but most of the rest of the world is getting on the clean bandwagon.
I.e. environmentalism, in that wise, WORKED. Why are the greenies so upset about what they should be celebrating as a victory? It also means that it isn’t something that should be expected to keep projecting out into the future. A room does not become infinitely bright by washing its windows more and more, after a certain point.
