No worries here. I have an easy commute and 4 different 4x4’s to choose from. Don’t have to go anywhere near the idiots and their wannabe 4wd tuna cans.
There still and will always will be people who will go where they shouldn't go.
There are still and will always will be people who IGNORE the weather forecasters because they WILL do what they want to do and the heck with everyone else.
There still and will always will be people who rely on the rescue folks (police, fire, forest rangers, soldiers, etc.) to get them out of their stupid, foolish, obdurate behavior.
"Donner Party" mentality isn't new. It will always exist. FREE WILL and listening to the Evil One will always win the day for some people.
Any questions?
We still have some snow from last week on the shady side of everything in Golden Valley. Meanwhile, down in town——zip. But, you know how Reno is.
“Studded tires are are permitted in Montana from October 1 - May 31”
Currently they are saying dry and fluffy. What we had last week was pretty slushy. Makes it a tad more difficult to clear the driveway when it’s like that.
“The Devils Hole pupfish (Cyprinodon diabolis) is a species of fish native to Devils Hole, a geothermal aquifer-fed pool within a limestone cavern, in the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge east of Death Valley. It has been described as the world’s rarest fish,[2] with a population of fewer than 200 since 2005.[3] Genetic analysis indicates that the species evolved at the same time the cavern opened up to the surface, about 60,000 years ago...”

Hopefully Colorado gets hit this good too so we can fill up all the reservoirs along the Colorado River this Spring.
At the very least this should completely end the California drought but it still won’t raise the land that fell due to over harvesting of the ground water in the San Joaquin Valley. Gotta protect the 10 or 15 smelt fish ya know...
Heard at a busy restaurant.....
Donner Party of 12, Donner Party of 12...
(10 minutes later)
Donner Party of 11, Donner Party of 11.....
(15 minutes later)
Donner Party of 10.....
When I lived out there, you always had chains in your car. Chains on 2wd and carry chains for 4wd meant it was passable, but snow on the road. If they required chains on 4wd vehicles that was code to stay at home.
I have a friend in Old Southwest that has not seen snow on the ground in a month.
But did see one morning of 9deg. And wind.
Reno can be a cold town, in more ways than one.
LOL! Yup. A couple of years ago I ran into town because I needed to replace a tire. We knew the forecast and by the time they swapped my tire out there was about 6 inches on the ground. The 15 minute trip home took me over 2 hours due to all the slippy slidey going on. It took some doing by by searching for a clear path without blockage I eventually made it home. The RAM 4x4 didn’t have a problem, it was getting around all the folks with rear wheel drive smoking their tires.
Lake Meade is the one that needs water. Folks in Las Vegas are parched.
Of course you wouldn’t know it by looking at the golf courses and fountains.
I don’t know of any amount of water that will raise the floor of the southern valley the 12-18ft it’s dropped over the last 10 years.
The smaller, fuller aquifers will just be closer to the surface.
And the remaining Valley Oaks will be able to survive.
They were banned here in Michigan back around 1971. I think if I were still living in northern Michigan, I'd probably have a set of chains in the trunk just as a precaution. Not for regular driving but for emergency situations........
It will take years of record run off to fill Mead back up to normal.
I believe its this spring that they will determin how much each state gets cut in their draw from that river. And AZ will be the one that gets cut the most, that we can count on. CA has historically went over its quota drawing water from that river.
Since CA has the largest population of illegals in it, they should estimate how many are there, and deduct that amount of water from their quota.
Funny thing, below lake mead, the levels are normal. I think the problem is that they should shut down some of the turbines that supply power to California at Hoover Dam.
Or at least the tastier members.
