While they probably *thought* they were buying LSD, the amount of genuine LSD on the market is tiny, compared to substitutes *called* LSD.

“fake LSD shares no chemical resemblance to real LSD. Fake LSD will typically last as long or longer than LSD and produce psychedelic and hallucinogenic effects, but in a completely different manner from that of LSD. More importantly, the chemicals that imitate acid can have unforeseen side effects more sinister than just lasting longer than expected.

“A typical fake hit of acid actually contains NBOMe derivative (e.g. 25C-NBOMe), DOB or Bromo-DragonFLY. Essentially, any hallucinogenic phenethylamine derivative that last longer than 6 hours and is potent enough so that an active dose fits on a blotter hit can be sold as LSD.

“The best way to find out if a 10-strip of “acid” is really LSD is with an Ehrlich test kit. This chemical procedure tests for the presence of an indole ring. LSD has an indole ring in its structure, but so do many other easily obtainable chemicals.

“Some fake acid dealers have been known to throw in some of one of these chemicals into their blotter solution just to fool the Ehrlich test. Besides the fact that the Ehrlich test can be fooled, most drug takers usually don’t have the time or money to invest in a chemical test.

Simpler- if it’s bitter it’s a spitter.

Or buy extra and send it to DanceSafe or a similar organization that will analyze it.

Maybe not LSD

Wondering the same thing. Is anyone even making LSD anymore these days?

LSD in 60s and early 70s dosage caused for some panic attacks and psychotic behavior like disassociation and depersonalization

But not violence not from my experience with the drug

Not from what I saw

However I think LSD definitely played a role in Charles Mansons ability to mind warp Tex Watson and Bobby Beausoleil and a bunch of college aged hippie pass around girls to butcher people cause he was mad at the world

Some people are eminently warpable. Some people are very good at spotting them and warping them. The drugs just greased the skids.

I’m sure there are, just as there are still companies manufacturing old-school basic fireworks that just explode in one color. But, the pretty ones that make sounds, form pictures, sparkle and are multicolored are far more popular.

Here’s more on that in Santa Cruz....sounds like it’s a bad lab relatively speaking to good lsd quality or the dosage is screwed up

Santa Cruz had a famous acid chemist once

Very short and real long hair who taught at the college

Lord he’d be close to 80 now if alive

I’m 60 next year

I’m not quite a decade younger than you, but I recall reading and hearing about the guy at UC Santa Cruz, he was famous in his little... err, subculture. The stuff people put in their bodies now, just because their friends do. No telling what kind of corrosive crap they’re cooking up in their bathtubs these days, it had gotten bad enough out there when I thankfully exited the scene close to twenty years ago. At the time, there were “candy flip” doses that looked like transparent blue plastic, reputedly with LSD, peyote and ecstasy all rolled into one. As wild as that sounds, far more aggressive stuff has come around since then, with bizarre effects upon people.

I think in Arizona, the drugs of choice are heroin and meth.

This guy was a member of the brotherhood of eternal love

Quite a crew....associated with Quicksilver Messenger Service the SF band

I was friendly with the younger brother of a member from Mississippi who’d gone to the Haight early on when I was still in grade school

Nick Sands made first class Sidney and is still around actually.....orange sunshine ....his protege Tim Scully was the one who taught the Santa Cruz chemist I knew from the old days in Austin and Santa Marta

This is going way back admittedly,,,my buddy was a lot older so if still alive he’s likely mid 70s

Sand and Scully like Owsley are public figures but my guy never was...

Soft spoken and small with long long ponytail.......very Kali beach guy but a genius

We drifted apart by early 90s

For the record I lecture my kids strongly about the risks of acid....and for anyone for that matter...why risk it

But I fear my oldest boy may not listen....he’s a risk taker....very alt right too....but I know him ....I just hope it’s a mild clean dose

Why take uneeded chance on your psyche?

Nervous folks can get in trouble quick

Lsd scared me actually but I decided to conquer it and I did

But my trip career on any of it...Sid shrooms or peyote was 73-77...windowpane at dead show at Tuscaloosa in 77 was last trip ever....it was a monumental show and fares well on Archives

I’m a creative type and always have had a little bit of a different “take” on things, so getting objective reality and subjective reality all crossed up didn’t bother me much, just rolled with it. I’d never recommend such experimentation, though, some don’t have such an easy time and it can be tough to predict just who will and who won’t.

This article in the New York Times describes some controlled experiments done with terminal cancer patients using LSD with some profound results.

LSD, Reconsidered for Therapy

Most of the subjects had terminal cancer, and several died within a year after the trial — but not before having a mental adventure that appeared to have eased the existential gloom of their last days.

Fascinating stuff...

LSD has taken by id guess 100 million people worldwide and that’s low actually

Probably 25-30 million just in the US from early 60s on

If it were cancerous in humans that would have showed up long ago

I did not realize it at the time but it was the gasoline that fueled the youth reaction to the postwar establishment of the 1950s and 60s

That was arguably not a good thing anymore than most 1960s upheaval was

There should have been a middle ground between dirt hippie life and Father Knows Best

College radicals who were actually not in college usually and more my own parents age and born literally of communist parents also took and espoused LSD

The weathermen too

But so did some conservatives early to understand it

Fairy dust for the human race best left to tiny sprinkles

It would appear we’ve learned because there is no giant wave of LSD usage today

That’s it precisely

The only generalization I’ve seen is girls are more prone to panic and have bad trips ....like real life...the panic thing

But some girls were at the helm buddy...fearless

Psychedelics tended to be hardest on the biggest egos

Of course Tim Leary still maintained quite the ego

"...Does anybody smoke hash any more?..."

No.

It's all wax or shatter or other concentrated MJ stuff from Colorado, made using the latest, advanced technology.

Hash is so, like, 70s, man.
