Oh, thank heaven for drones.
7-Eleven, one of the world's largest chains of convenience stores, has completed 77 delivers via drone to customers in Reno, Nevada.
The deliveries were made in collaboration with Flirtey, a commercial drone startup that began working with the retail chain over the summer. In November, Flirty made regular deliveries from a 7-Eleven store in Reno to a dozen select customers who used a custom app to place orders, the company said in a release Tuesday.
Popular items for drone delivery included hot foods, cold beverages and over-the-counter medicines, said the company. On average, orders were delivered in less than 10 minutes.
With 77 deliveries under its belt, 7-Eleven is flying in the face of tech giants like Amazon and Google. Amazon earlier this month delivered its first Prime Air order in the UK. Walmart, UPS and Google parent Alphabet are also testing out delivery drones. For instance, Alphabet has started a pilot program that delivers Chipotle burritos on the campus of Virginia Tech.
For all the momentum in this airspace, however, these unmanned aircraft still need to clear extensive regulatory and safety restrictions.

Can you imagine those things buzzing all around a city at low altitude. I guess you would get to the point of ignoring and not noticing but the air space is about the last place that isn’t full of something. I’d miss being able to stare into spae and not seeing anything.
What is more, they will crash and drop things. Get ready for that. Ditto on self driving cars and trucks. Sure they crash now but mostly they are not simply out of control.
Programmers do so well on simple stuff like billing programs that operate flawlessly we know how well they will program to compensate for random acts of nature and people. /s

From a privacy viewpoint, I don’t like it at all.
Just think, having these things flying all over the place delivering this and that. Mixed among them are government spy craft and peeping-tom type snoopers.
With sophisticated audio and video snooping equipment, they do not even have to be “in your air space”.
Then we have the democrat voting nut jobs loading them with explosives, with their little toys mixed with the delivery drones.
Fortunately for those of us living out in the sticks, if one gets within range, we can blow them out of the sky without fear of blowing out the neighbors windows.
To add to my above post:
Just think, tech savvy privacy lovers having their own armed pursuit drones and launching them to take out drones buzzing their property.
Having drone dog fights would be a very entertaining hobby!
Might even be protected by the 2nd Amendment.
In the Eighties there was a panic about killer satellites, which turned out to be an accepted threat. How soon will it be until we have killer drones taking out the competition, or hacked drones pirating deliveries?

They’ll develop lanes/patterns and altitude standards ... going/returning, heavy slow, light fast. I expect since people won’t want them over their houses that they’ll follow road layouts earlier on...we’ll see.
Probably end up with vernacular like Fedex/UPS lane being where the cargo planes are, Amazon/walmart lane where the drone packages are, and 7-11/Dominoes lane (or whichever fast food place is first) for food deliveries.
