Weeks after Rahmans death, a photo, appearing to depict the scene of her sons death, was leaked. The date, Aug. 8, was the date of Rahmans death.
The reporter who obtained the photo, from television station KMOV in St. Louis, chose to blur the body in the photo as well as the face of the North County Police Cooperative officer, since no wrongdoing has been determined.
He is wearing gloves, holding onto the arm of the body and giving a thumbs up.
When asked if she could imagine any reasonable explanation for the officers pose in the photo, Staton said, No, because when they come to a call, theyre supposed to be there to help and protect, not doing what he was doing with thumbs up and a smirk on his face.
Statons attorney, Antonio Romanucci, agrees.
Its hideous. The implications of this photograph are just astronomical, Romanucci said.
He believes something isnt right.
I have seen thousands and thousands of forensic photographs, I have never seen a staged photograph of an officer next to a deceased body, Romanucci said.

And THAT is why I am not 100% behind LEOs. I support LEOs that at least have a 70 IQ.
WRONG! Just wrong and stupid.
Tasteless gallows humor. However, not the end of the world.
Likely end of the career though. Will be too much pressure to let him go.
Stopping a POS trying to murder you IS cause for celebration.
A jury of your peers will understand.
Stupid cop! Unprofessional and offensive.
Really despicable and really stupid. He can say goodbye to his job.

Not the end of world for him to lose all his points to his next rank and suspended for a couple of weeks either.
Agreed.
You would think cops would know better than to put themselves in this position. No matter what this cop says or does he will be wrong.
>And THAT is why I am not 100% behind LEOs
And how many murderous filth have you dropped trying to kill you or your kind?
There is a period after you have survived near death from a gunshot, while still tasting the burnt nitrocellulose and dry mouth while the you realize the perp is stopped.
It starts instantly and never goes away.
From the article:
On August 8, 2016, Kim Statons son, 28-year-old Omar Rahman, was found dead in a home in Pine Lawn. The North County Police Cooperative responded. The county medical examiner has since ruled it an accidental drug overdose. But Staton says ever since her sons death, shes heard little from police.
and they wonder why people are hunting cops.
This is stupid - how do they know the officer was “celebrating”?
“Dude, do we need to get the EMT in here, or are you good?”
“I’m OK, buddy, (thumbs up) not a lot we can do here.”
Had no idea that all dozen or so Keyboard Warriors weighing in on this thread were present that night in order to know the exact context in which this photo was taken. This is a fraction of a second frozen in time and you all have no idea what was happening the instant it was taken.
But you all love to get your dander up and start preening about like proud cocks, strutting your supposed "moral superiority". So while this cop is out risking his life every day, you jerks sit around and bang on your keyboards and pass moral judgments on people and things about which you know nothing. What a joke this site has become.
IQ's of 70? yeah - right here on this thread.
It was stupid to make that gesture. Police in general should treat their jobs with more dignity. The man is dead. No more can be done to him.
We were typing at the same time. GMTA.
I have a simple rule.
Never ever call the cops unless you want someone arrested or shot.
I’m all for the thin blue line over anarchy, but the concept of peace officer there to serve and protect - that’s a pant load.
