Mel Brooks’ Hilarious Secrets Behind the Making of ‘Young Frankenstein’
New York Post ^ | October 30, 2016 | Michael Riedel

‘Young Frankenstein” is one of those movies that, when it crops up on TCM, you drop everything and laugh yourself silly till the credits roll.

You know all the lines by heart: “What hump?” “No tongue!” “Put . . . the . . . candle . . . back.”

But here, from Brooks’ delightful new book, “Young Frankenstein: The Story of the Making of the Film,” are a few behind-the-scenes tidbits you probably don’t know.

Of course they put the story involving Teri Garr last.

How true. Also, the leftists would try to have everyone involved jailed for even thinking about writing Blazing Saddles, let alone filming it.

Brooks told them: “Ladies and gentlemen, you’ve just seen a two-hour-and-22-minute failure. In less than three weeks, I want you back here to see a 95-minute smash-hit movie.”

I bet he just cut out all the bits where the audience didn't laugh...

I watched the movie last night on TCM. Classic. Every scene is funny and makes fun of older movies. Peter Boyle from Everybody Loves Raymond plays the monster, Marty Feldman grabbed the wrong brain, Teri Garr is always wearing a gown, and Cloris Leachman steals the show with her fine acting.

All of the actors did great, but Cloris Leachman stole the show. A great movie that could not be made today because of leftist idiocy.

Terri Garr was originally cast to play the part of Elizabeth (Madeline Khan). But Kahn wanted the part of Elizabeth. The story I have long heard was Terri Garr then did the German accent and Brooks was sold.

Political Correctness - the regime has no mercy for violators.

And on that note: everyone is saying that *nobody* - not even Hollyweird's best scriptwriters - could come up with the real life story line of this election, with its Anthony Weiner pun factory, the twisted misfortunes and collapse of the Establishment by its own hands...

Well except for Mel Brooks.

And there you have it. Divine rectification. The regime became its own Mel Brooks movie.

I like much of Mel Brooks movies, but I’ve never cared much for Young Frankenstein. I thought it to be somewhat dull and tedious . To each his own bellylaugh. Of course i thought Don Knots was an underrated comedy genius. Does anyone else remember The Incredible Mr. Limpett?
