The sound of a gunshot crackled through miles of soon-to-be combined land, bringing one pheasant to the ground in a single plop.

Carol Bothe and her crew spent the opening day of pheasant season pushing through fields, waiting for the perfect shot.

Bothe, of Brandon, is part of a growing female segment of small game hunting license holders.

Or maybe in the Obama/Clinton economy they need the meat to feed their families.

More women are getting involved with shooting sports. I went to a new local indoor gun range/gun shop a week ago and the person behind the desk (who told me how beautiful a new rifle that had just come in is) was an attractive young woman - with a holstered pistol on her hip.

If I’m gonna die I would rather be gored by a bull than trampled by a cow. I’m just saying. . .

One of the nearby shops/ranges has a number of part-time female staff, and they are usually easier to deal with than the average male "expert." The place also really promotes classes for women shooters and womens' shooting leagues. I was told that women now make up about 40% of their CCW classes. That is yuge.

Yep. I know the same range I was talking about offers a CCW class for women.

"The Goddess Athena was a Huntress."

Do you mean Artemis(Diana), goddess of the bow?

My wife wants me to take her hunting, I have serious doubts about her ability to remain silent for longer than two minutes.

This is a good thing. More people involved with guns means more who appreciate the right to own and use them.
Men can still have their groups of buddies to hurt with or go to the range with, but this custom is being passed onto a younger generation. It’s not dying out as the gun grabbers had hoped.

Women are the new men.

That is quite profound. There must be a Japanese haiku somewhere there.

I first heard that said a few years ago. Someone, maybe Steyn, was commenting on societal changes as shown in popular media. They compared Bond films from different eras. In the 60s, there was a long shot of a Bond girl emerging in a bikini onto a beach. In a recent Bond, it was the guy playing Bond shown emerging from the sea with closeup of his “hot” bod. It’s because men are the new women. And women are the new men. In all the recent movies and TV shows, they are the tough ones, and can even beat up men. I watch that stuff and laugh. We know that they can’t even find one woman who can make the Seals or Army Rangers without cheating on the qualifications. But they want to create this myth.

You got that right all the way, especially '...they want to create this myth.' So many TV series and movies are unwatchable because of this false narrative. I wonder why, is it the entertainment industry supplying a demand, or is it trying to set up false expectations? I travel internationally and I know both from personal experiences and those of other fellow travelers that American young women are quite different from the young women of other countries.
