I first heard that said a few years ago. Someone, maybe Steyn, was commenting on societal changes as shown in popular media. They compared Bond films from different eras. In the 60s, there was a long shot of a Bond girl emerging in a bikini onto a beach. In a recent Bond, it was the guy playing Bond shown emerging from the sea with closeup of his “hot” bod. It’s because men are the new women. And women are the new men. In all the recent movies and TV shows, they are the tough ones, and can even beat up men. I watch that stuff and laugh. We know that they can’t even find one woman who can make the Seals or Army Rangers without cheating on the qualifications. But they want to create this myth.

You got that right all the way, especially '...they want to create this myth.' So many TV series and movies are unwatchable because of this false narrative. I wonder why, is it the entertainment industry supplying a demand, or is it trying to set up false expectations? I travel internationally and I know both from personal experiences and those of other fellow travelers that American young women are quite different from the young women of other countries.
