CHAMBLEE, Ga. - A special celebration took place in Chamblee Thursday morning in honor of a beloved McDonald's employee.
October 27 not only marked Willie Calhoun's 73rd birthday, but also his 59th anniversary working at the fast-food chain.
"Mr. Willie," as his friends call him, started working at McDonald's when he was 14-years-old and has been at the Chamblee location on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard for more than two decades.
"I started off in Sandy Springs, to two more stores and ended up here," he said. "This is where I've been a very long time."
Thursday morning, a party was held at his longtime place of employment, where Mr. Willie was recognized for his hard work and loyalty.
"This is a special day for me," Mr. Willie told FOX 5. "It makes me feel great."
Mr. Willie said the best part about working at McDonald's is the wonderful people he works with.
"It's just been a great experience working here."

And he’s had a Big Mac every day for 59 years...
I worked 2 years at the Chamblee Buford Highway McDonalds from 1964-66, nights/weekends while going to school. Had to walk 2 miles to work each day. I was 14 at the time. I wonder if it’s the same store.
Big Mac was introduced quite a while after I quit there in 1966.
God bless this Mr. Willie and God bless the remaining old timers from my plant...........
“And hes had a Big Mac every day for 59 years...”
How could he have? He’s not fat. McD’s food, especially hamburgers, make you fat, you know. /s
I lasted almost a year at 16.
A year of 100 degree heat, disgusting uniform so bad that no one would pick me up in their car, and a pace that no human could keep up for years and years.
It was a HUGE McDonalds on Staten Island, and was ALWAYS packed.
When I closed, we mopped and cleaned the floor literally 6 to 7 times a night.
WOW! HOORAY Willie Calhoun. Happy Birthday, sir.
Some folks have many job skills, but do not have much curiosity about other jobs or unsettling ambition to make changes. I’ve settled down in the last 20 years, but, I’ve been a Job Gypsy at various times in my younger years. I don’t regret trying various kinds of jobs and taking risks.
Whereas, two of my sisters have worked at Blue Cross in Michigan without a break for over the last 35 years. There are pros and cons to each side, but one has to decide what makes you happy or what best fulfills your individual needs.
Congratulations to this fellow for a great work ethic.
